Below is the transcript of emails received from Midway Support about the problems I and most of your are having with Blacksite Area 51 my questions are in bold and their replies are bold underlined:
Question 11/30/2007 via Website
Area 51 Blacksite - can not install any patch.
every time i tried this message appeared
"Old File not found. However, a file of the same
name was found.No update done since file contents
do not match"
what can i do ? Please help I want to play this
game but can't too many glitches. I have am running
windows XP with the lastest drivers on a 7800GTX

Will there be patches for the european version.
Because this game is useless without them. The most
broken game I've ever bought. A game that can't
remember what resolution you want to play at is
next to useless.

Hi, Thanks for the reply, but the problem isn't
with my system. If midway had released the game
finished, instead of the rushed out, buggy,
unfinished and untested game that it is, then I
wouldn't have a problem, none of my other games
have. Will there be any patches for the euro
version released. If not then I want my money back.

My forum comment to these replies from support is below:
I'm sorry but the last time I checked I wasn't a beta tester for Midway Games Inc. Sort your games problems out yourselves. As for "a further update is planned", I should hope so and the quicker the better and shouldn't that be "updates" plural.

So, here is my take. You can either give them the answers they need to help you or go take the game back to the store where you bought it.
This whole thread with your comments just makes you look bad.
All games may have some technical issues and midway has posted 2 patches to address the problems and pretty fast from what I can see. I have been playing online games for over 10 years and Midway has done a pretty good job.
You can either provide the information they need or move on.

Are you for real? Either you work for these fools or you should take the time to read the threads that have been going since thanksgiving, which is when they released this piece of crap.
I have been coding and playing pc shooters forever and have never encountered a company with such contempt for its customers.
Do your homework next time.
Among the many ripped off.

So there is another patch coming fro Blacksite? If so, thank god... the game definitely needs some polishing up and optimization.
Most of the problems I have with the title are simply visual or performance. But some final optimization can fix that, NPCs need animations for entering vehicles, shadows need to be fixed and there's a little bit of clipping errors.
I contacted Midway about some of this, and they've never responded... I would gladly try and tell them what part of the game needs work and not.
I've beta tested games for fun and while under non-disclosure contracts.
But if another patch is coming up I'll leave the game installed.

The problem the Original poster said about is usually down to a change in an executable file (such as using a no-cd crack, or and more usually the fact that the US versions may require patching but eu and Uk versions generally come out that little bit later and contain relevant patches already including on the cd / DVD.
It's known that Blacksite released in the UK comes with V 1.2 already included as part of the initial install and therefore doesn't require patching.
