Ok im using a Geforce 6800...
this is under the min req, right?
but the game runs! its wonderful playable [even at 640x480 but hell, it rocks anyway :P]
the only problem is... i have 50% of the screen covert in black squares! i guess its some lightning sh*t that my GPU cant show me because it sucks ^^
the first 2-3 levels worked fine... but now i am at those casino-levels and everything i see is squares!
so is there any way to fix this?
i mean... would be pretty evil from midway to force players to buy a new graphics to play the game, even if they could play it with this lightning stuff disabled, huh? ;P

What are the rest of your system specifications? Please include CPU, amount of RAM, and other critical information.
Typically, black squares indicate one of two things. Those being texture corruption based on an old/outdated drivers or overheating/GPU hardware issues. To cover the first possibility, download and install the latest compatible drivers for your video card. These can be found at www.nvidia.com. I had some mild texture corruption on the level with the boats, but a driver update cleared that right up. I'm currently running Forceware 163.71 under Vista.
To cover the second possibility, you'll need to affirm that the inside of your computer is clean and free of dust. Also make sure that the fan on your 6800 working properly. You can monitor temperatures on your video card using a variety of programs built for the task. A google search will assist in finding these.
Do you have this problem in any other games or just Stranglehold?

ASRock 775Dual-VSTA
1GB Ram <-- could be a reason, too?

oh, i had this problem on bioshock, too!
but mainly on water reflections... but not on normal water, just on those small waterfalls!
btw i made a screen of how my stranglehold looks:
