ant bully on ps2...problem?

Ive rented the ant bully along with another game,but seem to be having a few problems with it.Whenever i want to jump off something i hit x & it rolls...is that ALWAYS meant to happen or am i doing something wrong?
Also another slight problem,when im not moving the analog stick,the kid moves around slowly on his own...i can deal with that.
Its just the whole not jumping thing thats annoying me,the games gotta go back tomorrow.Can anyone explain what im doing wrong here?

Your analog sticks are not properly calibrated. Either that or the timing is off on those controllers and needs to be cleaned or replaced.
