I *believe* you need to update your Starforce to a version that supports Vista.

Here are the instructions I found online for doing so -

How to update StarForce Drivers:

Updating StarForce drivers can improve protected applications performance and drivers compatibility. The following procedure will update the StarForce drivers on your system.

Download the SFUPDATE tool as a ZIP archive.
Extract and store sfdrvup.exe anywhere on your hard disk.
Run sfdrvup.exe.
You will need to install the game that uses Star Force and then run the update.

Sorry for the double post.

But could the error still be after patching if i have another game that uses starforce installed? The patcher, saying i have the latest, only detecting the other game (Second Sight).

You'll need to talk with Starforce's tech support, I think. sad

You cant use that game on Vista. Its using a custom version of Starforce that Midway specifically configured for that game. All versions 3.5 and up are Vista Upgradeable.

Im sorry man. You shouldnt buy games for an operating system that is not supported. Your begging for computer trouble when you do this.

I had the game long before my current comp. My old one had XP home edition and I had no problems there. I would of prefered my old comp to come with XP but the company that built my comp doesn't do XP anymore.

AARGH...i so miss playing this game.

Sorry for double post n all, and awakening a dead thread.

But I couldn't sit on this. At starforce i was told that they had no legal right or intention to mettle with this custom version and that I should turn to Midway.

I just thought I'd let you guys know.

Sorry, dunno what to tell you sad

My husband had this exact problem with a different game, and ended up getting a fairly cheep external hard drive. He installed XP on that, and now just boots to that to run those few games that can't run on Vista.

My answer still stands firm on why this wont work on Vista. Psi Ops came with a pre 3.x customizable version of StarForce that cant be updated through a patch sad

Urgh, i so want to play it, but i know the upgrades don't work n all. And I'm not going to buy an external HD AND an OS to play just one game.

Oh well, at least I can use the case to store my cash in.

The alternate method would be to get the Direct2Drive version of Psi-Ops. I heard that one is free of SF3.

Anyway, I tried my original copy of Psi-ops on my friends blazing DELL laptop and he has vista Home Basic on it. The only way to get it running is use an altered EXE which bypasses and disables the SF3 protection.

Since Midway didn't publish this I suggest you contact Zoo Digital:
