Thanks for tipping me off to the sound issues guys. In my case it was going to the Setup Suffering link in the Start Menu, and turning off Use 3D Sound Buffers option. My framerate has gone up at least 5x.

happy

Bravo, I'm reposting this with this gamers quote and lets get it stickied or something. I did this and it works no ssssttttuuuterriinnnggggg movies or game and you're not disabling hardware acceleration or reducing sampling settings for your sound card like some people had suggested. BTW, We need a poll if this is just Creative SB Audigy users or other brands/models too.

Alternate method, Run Suffering : TTB from the CD, select Suffering TTB setup from the list, on the audio tab uncheck the box for 3D Sound buffers, and bam a working game and it still sounds fine in my experience.

Also I thought I'd address the universal issue where many were confused(as was I) by the instruction given in game with regards to keyboard commands for the notes page, you use the second row numbers(starting from the Tilde key ~ , 1, I forget what it opened, 2, open close Map, 3, Seemed to only open Map?, 4, open Archive) to get into screens, Map, Archive, ETC. and you use the the Num Pad 4 and 6(think backwards< >forwards) only to get to the notes subscreen from the map screen, kinda silly, but the first one was funky like that too but not so confusing.

Glad it worked for you. Doesn't work for me.

Turning off 3D sound buffers doesn't change a thing in my game experience.

Movement is still too jumpy/laggy/stuttery to even attempt to play the game.

This also does not work for me. The game stutters so badly that it is unplayable. It is NOT a framerate issue. It is something to do with the mouse and the sound. When I move (asdw), the image is a smooth as butter, no stuttering whatsoever, but when I mouse-look, bam! stutters so bad that it is not even worth playing.

The first manifestation of this problem is on the initial setup/menu screen where the menu options are at the bottom of the page. My mouse pointer stutters here as well, so badly that I have a hard time even selecting menu items. The second issue shows up when I go to the audio menu. Each volume setting has a corresponding sound effect, but the audio on these effects sounds like an AM radio with a bad tuner. It is so full of static and I can barely make out the sounds.

When I an in the game and I escape out to the menu (the one that is arranged vertically) the mouse does not stutter, but the audio setting page still has the static issue, but to a lesser degree. Also the in-game sound seems fine.

Here are my system specs:

Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe
2x Nvidia GeForce 7800 GT (SLI enabled)
2 GB RAM

I am running the latest BIOS from ASUS (12.05), the latest NVidia graphics drivers (84.25) and the latest nForce system drivers (6.83).

I suspect this may be a problem with the on-board Realtek® ALC850 8-channel CODEC. I seem to remember reading somwhere that this CODEC has caused problems in the past.

If anyone has any suggestions or if Tech Support is out there reading this board, please help!

P.S. I have run MANY other games without any of these problems (Quake 4, Doom 3, Far Cry, Chronicles of Riddick, Call of Duty 2, to name a few)
