Nasty artifacts build up quickly on the screen when playing Area 51 on my brand new, never-overclocked EVGA 6600GT. I have the latest patch for AREA 51 and the latest drivers (posted 10/10/2005) for my video card.

Anyone have a clue? Battlefield 2 plays perfectly. I will test some more games and post back.

There seems to be a problem with 81.85 drivers and "Area 51" - reverting back to 78.01 works fine for me. I don't know any other solution - maybe the next game patch will help.

This same issue persists with the new 81.87 drivers as well. It's pretty frustrating, because the newer drivers do give better performance in other games - notably F.E.A.R.

I just wanted to drop in and confirm that I am having the same issue, though, on the same exact card - eVGA 6600GT.

same exact problem - XFX GeForce 6600GT

BTW
is there a new patch on the way - hopefully one that fixes the cheating problem? no cheating possible with the patched version(it crashes because of trainer) but the unpatched players can still join patched servers.

Has anyone found a resolution to this? I really don't want to revert a whole generation of drivers to play thru A51 a 2nd time, or to get my multiplayer on...

I have a 6600GT too and I'm experiencing the same problem. The 6600GT is far too popular of a card for them to ignore. Time is running out. I'll remember Midway whenever I'm shopping for games.

Same here, only i have a MSI GeForce 6600 with latest drivers.

I refuse to downgrade my drivers, because thta would affect too many games.

I also use a trainer (Single Player only, would never use MP Trainer) if that matters.

I don't mean to be rude Midway, but come on!

I'm getting a deja vu feeling, the same thing happened with MGS2: Substance and Konami. Is it just me, or do console ports never get enough love?

Sorry for raving, i just wanna play this!

Forgot to add: I just installed the latest Drivers (81.98) and i still get the "Trails"

It must be the Video card, because my old GF 3 ran it fine.

Same problem here. I've got the Gainward Golden Sample 6600GT, WHQL 81.98 drivers and the v1.1.89007u patch.

Please, Midway, this is a kick-ass game! I can't finish this game because of these artifact errors.

Btw, the artifacts appear everytime an enemy soldier goes into "invisible" mode. When the soldier is killed, the artifacts disappear up as well. Also in the third or fourth alien base room (where the floating Theta-units are) the artifacts manifest immediately. But there doesn't seem to be a trigger to clear the video RAM.

OOO... yeah, yep... this comfirms it. After reading what y'all just said - I have no idea what's going on. I mean, I try to play myself off as some sort of computer wiz, but I'm just a hack. *cries profusely*

Run the game windowed and the trails will be gone. (Tested on XFX 6600GT NVIDIA ForceWare 81.98)

Yep, me too.

Athlon 3200, 6600gt graphics and i have the same problem, it is making the game unplayable i cant see where i'm going half the time.
This is obviously a widespread issue and i cant believe that it hasn't been solved with a patch yet.
I just hope that the published or the developer will actualy do something to solve this problem rather than just have sold us a game that dosent work propperly (especialy considering that the 6600 was on the list of compatable cards in the system spec).
I do not apreciate companies selling products that are effectivley broken.

PLEASE SOMEONE MAKE A PATCH FOR 6600 (GT) USERS!!

Hey I'll try that tonight and see if it works. Was there an option in the game to run in windowed mode?

Try the new beta drivers from Nvidia 84.20

http://www.nzone.com/object/nzone_downloads_winxp_2k_32bit_84.20.html

Downloaded and installed this morning, no graphic errors! So far anyways.
