in xbox version you have to go in the bedrroms, the first will have a closet, grab the papers, then look at them, then a cut scene will play, goto the second go in another cut scene will play, goto the third, open go in, anothe cut scene will play.. goto the living room watch the tv, two cut scenes will play.. after the second cutscene.. the apts door should open to the hallway.

Same problem for me. It seems that you have to go into the map screen (press 2) and then cycle to a "notes" page by pressing numpad 4 and or numpad 6, but that doesn't actually work on my laptop. Anyone playing the PC version on a laptop without this problem?

I am having the same issues but i can't even read the new notes. They seem to disappear. I am also having problems with using numpad6. Have you resolved your problems.

If you are playing on a laptop you're going to have to remap two keys to get the map & note functionality:

Go into Options
Select Keyboard
Then Remap:
Next Screen (from Numpad 6)
Previous Screen (from Numpad 4)

The F4 & F6 keys are open and should work.

Hello to everyone, i'm an italian gamer, and of course i'm playing with an italian version of Ties that bind on a laptop. I too can't access to the letters i must read to progress in the game once in Torque's house. I've tried to remap the keys, but, no matter what key i set, it doesn't work. Every other command, if remapped, works, but this not. Hell, it's like the documents screen doesn't even exist! I open the map section and try to use the newly remapped keys, and nothing happens, the game remains on the map screen. I try to assign a key to open directly the documents screen (it can be done in italian version: strangely enough, though,no key is assigned to this function for starters), and nothing happens.
Can be a bug of italian versions of the game? I don't really know what to do... the game runs without any other problems on my laptop, the only problem i have is this.
I hope i've explained me well (my english is not very good, sorry), and i thank you guys in advance.

I've done some research, and i found a way to access to the numpad via laptop: in most laptop keyboards, there is a special "Fn" key, wich is required to do this "trick"...
Press Fn+Alt+U to obtain NUMPAD 4.
Press Fn+Alt+O to obtain NUMPAD 6.
In my version, at least, that's the only effective way to cycle through the map screen and the objective screen, remapping the key doesn't seem to work... i'm still wondering why, but at least the problem is solved.

It's the Starforce drivers conflicting with, what it mostly is, your firewall...such as Zonealarm Pro. They've posted the updated Starforce drivers on their support page. But be warned that using the Starforce drivers does install some crap on your system, (which they don't tell you)
Update the Starforce drivers, if you have to, and it should work fine.

This is an ongoing problem. If anyone has found a solution, please post it on the board. My laptop manufacturer doesn't provide a key mapping for the numpad and I am completely unable (for reasons un-annoucned to me) to remap the numpad keys in this game. This renders it impossible for me to play it beyond the appartment in the begining of the game and it also leaves me a very unhappy gamer who feels like he didn't get his money's worth. It looks like Midway is pushing this issue under the rug if you ask me... no honest support answers to be found anywhere on the forums. Could someone please be frank with me and just give me a yea or nea as to whether or not there is a solution for this (rather serious) game glitch out there? Thanks.

The official Midway support people do not work on the forums. The ONLY way to get official support is by using the official support page linked in the sticky post at the top of the forum.

I have also submitted a request to that support system. Thanks... I am eagerly awaiting a reply.

I have yet to hear back from midway... if anyone has a solution for this problem, please let me know. I would really like to be being creaped out by crazy monsters right now rather than trying to figure out what obscure key configuration I have to press for an IBM thinkpad R51 to access the correct numpad buttons. Thanks.

LoL! And yet Midway pays to keep this forum active.

Your argument is illogical but, as expected, is politically correct.

Peh!

The department that runs the forums and the department that runs customer service are two separate entities entirely.

Sorry, but that's how most of the gaming corporate offices these days work that I've ever seen.
