What gives with the progam.
I loaded the game and started playing. I set the game options and hit accept and the game will send my system into a complete reboot. Especially if in the game and say try to invert mouse look, or sound volume.

Anyone else with this problem. I think that there is a bad bug within the game that really needs fixing. Bout ready to pack this up and see if BB will take it back.

I had this sort of problem with several games on my "Best" computer but I could run them on an inferior setup on a second computer.
It acctually turned out to be a faulty Leadtek Graphics Board.
Check everything before dumping the game.
Is your computer up to the game spec etc.

I have uninstalled the game and then re-installed. Same thing is going on. At the initial setup when you press ESC to go back to the previous menu to start a new game the system will dump back into a complete reboot.

My system is above the recommended specs.
P4-2,8
1Gig Ram
130 Gigs of free space
9800 pro video

Still crashes the system.

Now it also crashes the system if you try to save the game.
Tis has become a worthless piece of game. I thought it was a finished game not a beta.

Best Buy won't take back an open package and now I'm out the money and game. Midway really needs to get it together.

I have the same problem. As soon as I tried to change the pitch setting (why would it default to inverted?) and hit the ESC button, I get a blue screen and I am forced to shut down the PC and reboot. This happened when I changed some video setting also.

I am extremely pissed off because I enjoyed the hell out of the first game.

What gives Midway?

Guys;

Same problem here and I highly doubt we are ALL having the exact same hardware issue.

P4-2000
Windows-XP
Nvidia Geforce FX 5200
512 ram
80 Gig HD

"ESC" from the "Options" menu or saving a game results in a CTD everytime and at the very least cannot play this game with the mouse axis reversed.

BTW, played Half-Life 2 decent, Area-51 perfectly and no problems currently with Dungeon Siege II.

How did this problem get by the beta testers or mag reviewers?

Exact same problem for me too guys.

Has anyone tried getting ahold of someone at SURREAL or MIDWAY?

I posted this same problem over at the Surreal forums (<http://www.surreal-news.com/forumdisplay.php?f=33>) but there has been no response.

This sucks.

Oh well, just picked up B&W2 and Brothers in Arms 2, and I imagine those will work fine.

Has ANYONE been able to ESC the options menu or save the game without a fatal CTD?

I played the console demo, but didn't like the control with the pad.

Bought the PC version cause I'm more comfortable using the mouse and keyboard. If we don't get an answer before the weekend, I'm going to request a refund/replacement through customer service as this is one defective product in my mind.

hey guys thanks for the replies, atleast I know I am not alone with this.
I have opened a question at he support center
http://www.midway.com/page/SupportCustomer.php?url=midway/consumer/question.asp

Head over there and let them know that its happening to you too. So far I haven't gotten an answer back yet. THey have had me update the motherboard drivers, audio drivers, ide drivers, video drivers, run dxdiag, and msconfig, still nothing.

I don't even get a blue screen just a reboot.
I have noticed that I can go into the game settings and not even change anything and the system will boot back to the bios screen.
I even tried in game changes and get booted.
Tried to change video to lowest settings and turned others off, when I reloaded the game and boom got rebooted.
I have an ongoing inquiry #2868 from Midway Support and still no answers.
I'm going to point them to this forum too.
I will let you guys know if they come up with something.

Specs.

Asus P4S533 board Intel P4 2.8G
1Gb Ram
Ati 9800 pro 128mb ram
2 160 Gb harddrives.
C-media sound

As long as I don't hit the "esc" key to exit any menus or attempt to save the game I'm fine.

Same here having an ongoing discussion going with Midway Support. Hopefully if more of us let them know about the problem, they will come up with a patch or something.

I have been working with them for a aweek now. I have'nt really enjoyed the game with it rebooting and having to restarft from the beginning if I do try to play.

I am about ready for MIdway to come up with something alright.

Come up with the money I spent on this buggy load of programming.
Bout ready to send it to G4, X-Play and the rest and let them see what a load we're having to deal with. Makes you feel like its the grab the money and run scenerio

Guys;

If you have opened a technical support case, then you should have been contacted by Midway Support with a work around to this issue.

For those of you who have not, the fix involves UN-installing any personal firewall software that your PC might have (Zonealarm, etc).
I have tried this and it does work allowing you to adjust the game parameters and save through the "options" menus. You can then RE-install the firewall software and play the game with the new settings and try to live with not being to access the menus further.

Midway Support says that they are investigating the possibility of a patch to correct this issue. Personally I hope they do.

Update;

Midway has discovered that the problem was being caused by compatability issues between some personal firewalls and the 'Starforce' copy protection. There is an updated 'Starforce' file that should correct the issue people are having with the "esc" key and saving the game.

I have personally tested this and it solved all of these issues on my PC.

Here is the link to the message from Midway Support:

It's not anyone's hardware. It happened to me too: my PC crashes anytime I hit esc.

I'm also glad I'm not the only one trying to invert the mouse setting, btw. (don't like the default setting. don't want to play that way!)

I knew it had to do with "starforce". I KNEW it!

They can go to extremes to protect the game from being stolen, but they go too far when even after paying for it - you can't play it! The security system's so tight it crashes your pc whenever you try! It's stupid!

What did I pay for - the "starforce" security software, or the freakin game?! So far it's only "starforce" that doesn't fail ! As for the actual game, I guess that's not as important! They'll just work out the bugs on that - after people have paid for it!

I'm also having other problems, which I didn't have before, not game-related, since I installed this game. My home network's not working now either. Also my cd drives aren't refreshing when I change discs.

If it turns out to be "starforce"-related, and there are more "compatibility issues" than with just firewalls - I'm getting my money back. I didn't buy this game for the security system on it!

So far it's ruined the game, and possibly screwed up other things as well!

I'm not really interested in updating "Starforce" drivers either. If I have to do that to play the game, I will - but that's the last "starforce" -protected game I buy. And if after I do, it doesn't all work right, then I'm returning the damn thing.

The copy protection on the game isn't what I was after when I spent 30 bucks on it! I spent my money on "The Suffering...." NOT on "starforce" copy protection! So why is that all they made sure worked ?! It's been 3 days now I couldn't play the f****** game! So far it's just interfered with what I bought - and wasted my time!
