Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe FAQ
This topic is not for hating on the next MK, it is purely an information thread. All the facts will be found here. Just a note, I put the links to the videos at the bottom of this post. Here is a summary of the facts so far:
This game is not canon, it is not a part of the series' storyline.
There will be Fatalities, but those fatalities will not be gory, for example, no decapitations, and they may be renamed to something else instead of being called Fatalities. Also, Only MK characters and DC villains can perform "fatalities", while DC heroes, who don't necessarily kill, will sport brutality like finishers that function like fatalities, but aren't actually lethal to the opponent.
Ed Boon stated he fully intends to make the next MK an M-Rated game thats just MK. His intention is to have multiple franchises running side-by-side, the VS. games and the MK games to be released together. He stated this game was not his original intention, but his desire to make a crossover outweighed any drawbacks this game presented.
While there will be blood, the game will be rated "T", however, Midway is looking to push the "T" rating as close to "M" as possible without crossing the line.
Midway's Marketing team knew people at DC and discussed it with them. When DC agreed, the idea was presented to Ed Boon who, after some deliberation, agreed to the idea. So it was Midway who began the crossover.
The storyline for the game will be written by comic book veterans Jimmy Palmotti (Monolith, 21 Down, Painkiller Jane) and Justin Gray (Jonah Hex, Crisis Aftermath: The Battle for Bludhaven, JLA Classified). The DC universe will take place in modern day. From this, I gather there will be no "future" characters like "V" from V for Vendetta.
The ending parts of the story mode is quoted as "MADNESS" with "EVERYONE".
A quote about the character selection process, from DC writer Jimmy Palmiotti: "I think it came down to a lot of people's preferences of who would be the best character to put in what situation. We managed to sneak in a few that people won't see coming".
According to Boon, both sides made a Top 20 list of characters, those lists were compared and characters were chosen based on populatiry, then the team looked at logical counterparts. Final character count is still at 20 kombatants, and Boon reaffirms that no new MK or DC characters will appear, and no oddballs like "Krypto the Superdog or crazy things like that"
MK vs DCU will feature a story mode from two different perspectives, one from the DC side, and one from the MK side. Ed Boon mentioned that the DC characters will see the MK characters as the invaders, and vice-versa.
The character count may be 22 characters total. 20 is the minimum expected. As before, half will be MK and half will be DC. Ed Boon said that the most "iconic" characters from MK and DC will appear. Equally, there will be various MK and DC arenas. Fighting arenas may be actual mergers of two arenas from both universes, like a combination of Shang Tsungs island and something from DC.
Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Sonya, and Shang Tsung, have been confirmed for the MK side, and Batman, Flash, Superman, and Catwoman are confirmed for the DC side.
E3 Will reveal 2 MORE CHARACTERS, and TWO ARENAS
Comic Con will reveal 4 MORE CHARACTERS
A note about Superman, due to the universal merger storyline, he is weakened by the magic effects, making him a balanced character. One thing that is not known to some people is that Superman's weakness is not limited to Kryptonite, he can also be weakened by magic.

Separately, here are the renders released so far at the time I wrote this:
Superman Render: http://forums.midway.com/mortal_kombat_vs_dc_universe/b10806/28478060/p1/
Batman Render:

Sub-Zero Render:

Scorpion Render: http://forums.midway.com/mortal_kombat_vs_dc_universe/b10806/28438280/p1/?9
There was a Catwoman Render leaked, however Midway asked many websites to remove it. Therefore I'm sure it is most likely against the rules of Midway Forums to post the render or a link to the render. No render of Sonya, Flash, or Shang Tsung has been released yet.
Batcave and Gotham Rooftop arenas:

Some information about special moves has been released. Each character will have about five to seven special moves. The Midway team is trying to add another layer of gameplay within the special moves themselves. With Superman’s heat laser, you keep mashing buttons and you get a power charge at the end. With the ground pound, it has the initial hit in it, but there’s a very small window right when the fist hits the ground where if you press the button again, it will chain another hit into it. A lot of special moves will have elements like that.
Scorpion has his Spear, a Teleport Uppercut, and a Teleport Kick. BerzerkerAce also mentioned something about a Leg Grab, however this was also performed by Batman, so this might just be a standard attack. His classic Fatality, The Toasty, is confirmed.
Sub-Zero has his Freezing Ice Ball move, his slide attack, a new Ice Teleport which acts identically to Smoke's MK:A teleport, and a freezing move that acts like his Ice Clone, but seems to be visually different in the current video.
Sonya has her Leg Grab, Purple Rings projectile, Rising Bicycle Kick, and Kiss Of Death stunner.
Shang Tsung has his Soul Drain, Fireball, Falling Fireball, and a New Underground Teleport, similar to Blaze's in MK:A.
Flash, similar to Kabal, can spin his opponent like a top simply using his own speed, a “Flurry Punch”, a Speed Teleport move, and a 'Speed Juggle that takes him from one side of the screen to the other.
Superman has his Heat Vision, Freeze Breath, Super inhale, a Ground Pound, He also sports an exaggerated throw during which he throws his opponent ten feet up before flying up and slamming them back to the ground.
Batman has his Batarang, and his block move incorporates his cape.
Catwoman has a Cartwheel Kick Pop-up, A Whip that wraps around the opponent's legs and drags them close, and a Leg Wrap and Slap which seems to be her throw move.

As for the standard gameplay itself, Freefall Kombat is tied in part to stage interaction. The mode is another player initiated sequence which is kicked off by you flinging your opponent off a stage. Unlike previous games you won't just follow them down or watch yourself drop. Instead the camera will come in and you'll be able to fight on the way down. You'll have a slightly tweaked set of possible attacks in this mode, much like Klose Kombat.
Then there's Klose Kombat. Klose Kombat is a mode you'll initiate which pulls in the camera in close and has its own separate mechanics. Basically, when you initiate the mode you'll be the aggressor and your opponent will be on defense. In this closer view you'll be able to attack your foe's upper body with different types of blows for a set period of time, namely five attacks, the exact duration of which is still being ironed out. To keep things fair, your opponent will be able to perform a number of different defensive moves to dodge your attacks and end Klose Kombat, provided they're fast.
As for general fighting, attacks and special moves will be open-ended, players will be able to create their own combos
rather than bashing out buttons etched deep in the memory. As a result of attacks, masks will shatter, and clothes will tear revealing scarred skin and wounds gained during battle. However, The DC heroes are not allowed to appear in “silly” situations, such as messed up hair-do’s, or missing teeth. The team is returning to the 2D philosophy for the basic combat. Ducking and jumping and flip kicks have a bigger role now, and there is much more attention on special moves.
The game build that was tested showed a beaten and bloody Superman, but “Lead Character Artist” Luis Mangubat admitted that the build had not been approved by DC yet. MK character damage levels will go far beyond DC’s, with Sub-Zero’s and Scorpion’s mask being able to be shattered as an example. There is a gameplay shot of Scorpion without his mask, his upper half head still has the “human skin” on it, but the bottom half is all skeleton, no lips and no nose.
They go into pretty good detail of the character builds, they seem very proud of it. Every material in the game was built to act independently from everything else. They have different properties for each material used, such as, leather, satin, skin, metal, plastic; each one with it’s own defined weight and light reflective property.
There will be arena destruction and interaction. You can throw your opponent through walls, and off of high places, and into other parts of the arena. There will be no stage fatalities or deathtraps mid-round. This time around you will have to beat your opponent to death.
This game will not include any elements of previous games. No Konquest, and no Puzzle, motor, or chess Kombat.
MK vs DCU will utilize the Unreal 3 engine, as well as original code developed by Midway. The game will be released this fall for PS3 and Xbox 360. There is no unreal 3 engine for Nintendo Wii, however Ed Boon states that he has no problem with MK vs DCU for the Wii if it can be done.
An MK vs DCU demo will be playable at E3 from July 15th to July 17th.

No problem
Expect a Version 4 after E3 and Version 5 after Comic-con. If more deep and detailed information appears sooner, a new version may appear before then.

Just a small note:
On GameTrailers TV, Boon indicated their may be as many as 12 characters per side, so the roster could potentially range between 20-24 characters total.

Remember that Ed Boon also mentioned that in the future he'd like to have downloadable content that may include levels/characters. Even if the initial character count is 20 etc. There's always room for more after release!
