sometimes, in order for a tree to grow, you have to actually cut back it's roots, or transplant it completly.
here's a thought. if MK4, onward, have been "following the roots", and still have been going downhill, perhaps MK1 was the best it ever got?
perhaps the "roots" of the game, arent what really made it GOOD, as clearly even with the roots intact, the games still stink in your opinion.

But ever since the actual game changed to 3D, The gameplay has lacked in many ways compared to other fighting games. I know I play MK Trilogy once every week or so, Now why dont I do that with Armagedon. Because it sucked.. thats why. It has no replay value, something older MK games had.

deception was amazing and i think one of the top selling mk games ever (not including re-sales etc). armageddon was a let down cause there was no improvement, in fact it was pretty much a downgrade except for the massive roster. everyone lost a syle, the fatality system was a failure, and there simply wasn't enough effort, it got boring quickly.

i think mk4 was my favortite, the gameplay was a little faster, and the sound effects were cooler. mk armagedden was a little overambitouse, it could have worked, if they had 5 years to develop it and the 360 wasnt coming out, trying to put a hundred characters in the game wasnt the best idea. next to that, i would say shoalin was pretty freakin cool.
i dont think the series went downhill, but it definatly had its hic-ups.
most people are bummed by the fact that the new games dont have all the old cool stuff that they used to. like in trilogy the alternate costumes where also alternate versions of the character instead of just a wardrobe change, that would be really cool to unlock. plus each character had more fatalities then u could shake a stick at in mk4 and shoalin monks, but deception, da, and mka, either only had a couple or generic ones for all.
plus some of the characters would pall in comparisin to there 2d roots. like shang obviosly forgot a few tricks, motoro lost some whieght, smoke lost his signature cloud and just wasnt very distinctive, along with a few others.
some things i miss, but u gotta admit deception, da, and shoalin monks have been pretty cool. armagadden, i just noticed to much of the move recycling and some of the characters like shoa kahn and shinnok were just kinda broke. create a character was awsome, that should be the one thing from that game they sould keep.
for mk vs dc, put in some kak, mix in a shoalin monks story mode, mostly to unlock things, give us at least an mk4 selection of "finishers", a sweet krpt with more then just art and clothing lines, and this game could be pretty cool.

You know, Every single special edition "MK5, MKD, MKA, All I have bought. With Hopes Of greatness. ANd man I've tried to sit there and get into to those games, But I can't. The gameplay is so broken. It has no replay value. My friends will kill me if I pop in MKD or MKA in my PS3, simply because it's boring,and xtremely slow. Now if its MKTrilogy or even "MK4" which was not all that bad after all, then ok. Again, I dont really care if this game gets made, I really don't. I know I wont be intrested in it, Even if my faovrate Character "Noob" is in it. just the thought of fighting someone like Superman Pisses me off. Is ridiculous. No Fatality's but hey we have finisher.. whatever.. There's blood, just not so much... Yea, just How I like it. AND finaly something Darker & NEW.. guess what, you get to fight Batman, SUperman and the other friendly Heroes.. Get the **** out of here..
