Solomon Grndy want pants, too!
...anyone? Anyone?
Anyway, every time Grundy 'dies', he's reborn on a Monday with different levels of power. I strongly doubt he'd make it in, but it would be pretty cool if every time he was chosen, he'd have a fluctuating level of strength, speed and durability like he does in the comics. He'd be a gamble of a character.

i don't know who he is but i love that idea, would really add another aspect to a beat em up, the mirror could be shang stung, you choose him but you have no idea how many souls he's captured, would be awesome imo

Thanks. Maybe his stats could even change between rounds, or give him a move that randomly switches it around at the cost of his health. Is the player happy with low speed and moderate attack power, or are they willing to give up a bit of health at the chance to get Goro-level power with Liu Kang's attack speed(Uh, not that there's a big change in MK speed, but you get the point)?
As for my first sentence, it was a Cartoon Network joke commercial.

personally i'd prefer it to be per fight not round, you choose him and you either dominate or struggle, much more of a gamble, and it also has the potential to stop the players who always choose the strongest character, like when my friend would always choose blaze, the eddie gordo preference i like to call it, cheap as others would.
another idea is maybe during the fight you could steal souls to slowly tip the strength, so if you happen to be the soulless tsung, the way to win would be to try and absorb as much as the opponents soul as possible, but doing so would obviously leave you vulnerable to attacks or something.

Shang could work with two types of soul stealing. One is the close ranged one he's done before that could give him back health. Another could be a ranged one that takes a bit longer to pull off and can easily be interrupted by someone that's not stunned or downed. Maybe the latter can lead to Shang getting more power or stronger special attacks.

i like that idea, it is a main attribute he's known for after all, we should see some development.
we could even push it to environment interactive, chamber of souls...he's powerfull...but only if he absorbs them, shao's throne room...kahn simply just gives him the power....but for example jade's desert...not many souls there other than cyrax's lol.

I had the same thought with level interactivity, too. Too much factors to work with in the game, but it's a nice idea to work with in future games. Then like you pointed out, there's characters that are either protected or simply lacking souls for him to use, which could give unskilled Shang players a bigger challenge.

yeah we'll just have to look forward to this kind of advancement, nothing wrong with imagining though. it could work with a lot of the mk characters, raiden can't fight on earth very well as he's not meant to intervene, sub could be stronger in more moist areas, not the netherrealm, where as scorpion is strongest in the netherrealm, and kang could be stongest in earth stages as he is the champion, would make everyone a gamble really (if stage selection is constantly random that is).

Those definitely work. Of course the option to turn the level effects could be turned off for classic gaming, but a wider level interaction could work for this franchise.

being able to turn it off is definitely a must, sorta like how you could chose classic ism in sf alpha, it's all about the possibilities in games these days.

Yup. Way back in the fourth grade, I've had ideas like these that were just far out wishful concepts that had no chance of truly happening. Now consoles actually have the raw power to make it work, and I hope someone out there gets the guts to take a risk with the innovation.
