I had a typing error or two in some of my lasts couple of posts I had to go correct myself. Sometimes it's too easy to accidentally put the wrong things in with a keyboard, especially in my case. I got a D minus when I took Typing in my last year of high school. Anyway, back on topic. I fixed a typing error or two myself as well so no one would get the wrong idea with what I typed.

Tiberius posted: Okay, I'll give you some answers. I've stated them before here and there in past threads, but I'll give you as much details about that as I can. I have nothing against DC Comics. I've been a Batman fan since I was a kid. I really enjoy the 90s animated series and also the Justice League. Batman Begins was awesome and I can't wait to see The Dark Knight when it comes out in July. DC is awesome just like MK, but I honestly feel they don't belong together in the same game. Too incompatible, too different from one another partially because MK people kill and DC heroes don't. Another reason is the fact that most superhero games aren't that good. For example, the best Batman game I ever played was Rise of Sin Tzu and it was so-so at best despite having Kevin Conroy voice Batman in it like he did for the animated series. If a crossover had to be done, MK should've been paired with a franchise that has no qualms about death and dismemberment. The T rating to me and the removal of the fatalities I think are both bad ideas because death moves and the M score are consistent MK staples. You'd mentioned before that you believe that a T rating could help generate more sales, but I really don't think an M rating has ever stopped anyone from getting that kind of game before. For example, GTA 4 sold 3.6 million copies on Day One. I'll bet a fair amount of those people playing it right now are under 17. After MKA came out, I was really looking forward to finding out who lives and who dies come MK8 and now they're not sure if MK/DC will be canon? That's kind of frustrating, because this game will probably put those answers on hold at least for a year or two. The timing of this crossover seems wrong. This move seems too risky to me, even more so because they made certain mistakes in recent years. MKA was good, but it had its flaws. The game was rushed, the endings were cheaply done, and the bios we were promised never got finished. Ed Boon and his crew are very talented people, but I honestly feel they've made some mistakes in recent years and making a game with another awesome yet incompatible franchise seems like yet another bad move. I saw one of my other favorite franchises die last year due to bad decisions and self-inflicted wounds. It was the Highlander franchise, and I see too many similarities between them and MK when it comes to internal problems. If MK isn't careful, they could destroy themselves like Highlander did. I hope they survive, I really do. I've been an MK fan since Day One back in 1992, and it would really suck if another franchise I really like dies this year too. In conclusion, I have nothing against anyone who wants this game. I just don't think this crossover is going to work and it's going to alienate a fair portion of the MK fanbase. It doesn't seem like a good idea in making this game based on past problems and Midway's current financial woes. I want this series to turn things around and recover, but I honestly think this crossover is not the way to make this happen (mainly because some fans like me won't buy it). Everything just seems wrong about it to me, and I think it could make their current problems even worse. Sorry for the long read, but those are my reasons.
Excellent post! I totally agree with you 100%! The main problem is that the two franchises are not compatible in so many ways. I also have been a MK fan since '92 and have been a DC fan since back in '85 (Crisis on Infinite Earths and Who's Who series), and I am not thrilled about the idea at all. I like what I'm seeing for visual graphics of the new game (I think Scorpion looks great, but then he always looks great )but seeing good DC characters fighting other good characters doesn't really interest me. The only real reason that I would like to see this game succeed is to see a good vs. evil DC universe stand alone game, but since so many interesting DC characters are psychological (ie. Batman's Rogues Gallery) that might not really work either. Personally, I think comic characters should stay in the medium where they've succeeded for decades - which is as visual entertainment without user control which allows writers to determine courses for the characters and viewers and fans to enjoy their stories, while video game characters should stay in the user controlled enviroment. It was the way the characters of both mediums were designed for, and where they each thrive. Switching them around just cheapens the characters - and no, I was not really a fan of the MK comics. I love the stories of the characters, but they WERE designed for kombat. Anyway, that's my 2 cents (or more like $2.50 - sorry, followed a long post with another long post)!

This crossover idea has definitely sparked a lot of controversy. It's good to know that there are others out there like myself who enjoy both franchises while also thinking that they don't belong together. Too many times, some people (not all) here thought I was hating on DC which was the furthest thing from the truth. A stand alone DC versus game as you said sounds like it would be fun by the way. I would definitely pick up something like that if it was done well.

They did, huh? Well, I agreed with them too. I didn't like that idea either, and when the game came out, it wasn't enjoyable to play at all. And I don't like Marvel OR Capcom (except early NES Mega Man, which is 1-6 ), so if two franchises I like team up and I still think it's a bad idea, it likely WILL be a bad idea. I guess we'll see!

Time will tell on this, but I just don't think MK and DC are compatible. Nearly everyone I've talked to about this idea offline thinks it's a bad idea. That's just those I've talked with by the way, not a reflection of what the entire fanbase thinks.

Ya'know, Kabal's animality in MK3 had him turning into a shark. Could he be talking about that? I mean, if Kabal were to turn into a shark, Aquaman would be able to control him, right?
EDIT: Someone has pointed out Cyrax actually turned into a shark, so whoops, my bad.

What? MvC2 is the only arcade game I still consistently play.Of course, you would have to have liked 2d fighting games to like it(wich Street Fighter is one of them). Still, to each his own, but care to explain what wasn't enjoyable about it? Or maybe my sarcasm detector is off.

I never really followed that crossover series, so I had no idea.

I have to be honest, I have not played Marvel/Capcom 2 since I didn't care for the first one. It's not that I don't like 2D fighting (I can still spend hours playing MK2 unlocked on my copy of Shaolin Monks), but more like a combination of factors: cartoony graphics, story seeming forced to combine franchises (also a problem with MKvsDC), and uninteresting characters. As I've stated before, I like both the MK and DC franchises, while both Marvel and Capcom are not as interesting to me. The game would have had to have been phenomenol for me to say I liked it. (And on a side note: I have never understood the acclaim that came with Street Fighter II. I never really found the game that fun to play. And when I played MvsC, it seemed like just another take-off of SFII.) Really, there has never been a fighting game I have enjoyed as much as MK. Let's put it this way: I'll play other fighting games if friends want to play them, or I get together with them and they want to try something different; but if I feel like a fighting game and my only opponet is going to be the old AI, Mortal Kombat proves time and again that it's really my ONLY choice. (I do try new ones from time to time, but I never like them; the latest was John Tobias's Tao Feng - couldn't get into it, didn't like the button configurations, got bored with it, probably won't play it again, like so many others.) Maybe I'm obsessed? *rubs finger up and down on lips* wwbbpp pbbwbbppp
