I'll give you the fourth list very soon. I found out Frosty and Crispy:

"As Sub-Zero, beat you're opponent until his/her life bar says "danger". Perform Sub-Zero's Ice Freeze (QCF + LP). Dan Forden will appear and say "frosty"." -Gamespot.com

Also, I'll add Crispy to the list: "During the Pit fatality at Scorpion's Lair, hold Low Punch on controller 1 and 2. You will hear Shao Kahn say "crispy"." -Gamespot.com

centering xxi(nearly finished - names with (...?) still need some information, all help is welcome now)
Characters:
01. Scorpion He resembles a real scorpion by his spear special move.
02. Sub-Zero The name comes from his frigid life and special moves. Originally he was meant to be named Glacier.
03. Reptile He is a Saurian which is a reptilian race. He is also treacherous like snakes and reptiles are reputed of.
04. Rain The name comes from American pop singer Prince's song "Purple Rain". Also, his half brothers' names are Daegon and Taven, all of them have the letter "n" in the end, similar to gods Raiden and Fujin. He is also a prince of Edenia himself.
05. Ermac The name comes from 'Error Macro' which can be seen in the first Mortal Kombat
game after a certain procedure. He was accidentally added to the game but soon became official.
06. Chameleon He is supposedly a Saurian or a clone of Saurian, which is
a reptilian race. Changes color while fighting and blends into the environment.
07. Noob Saibot The name comes from Mortal Kombat's creators John Tobias and Ed Boon's surnames.
08. Smoke Smoke has commonly a smoke cloud around him and he performs smoke related special moves.
09. Cyrax The name is 'unstoppable' in a Middle Eastern language.
10. Sektor A common word in technological devices. The "K" letter is an MK trademark.
11. Stryker Means "courteous traveller". Kurtis comes from "courteous" and "Stryker" tells
he is aggressive and hard-working. He was created to be an every-man character.
12. Kabal A condition in which you need a resperator to live. Also, "Cabal" means a small, organized, secretive group of specialized men in the Middle East. Kabal wants to lead one (in this case, Black Dragon). (Proof of the condition part?)
13. Dairou "Great spin". "Dai" is Japanese for "great" and "rou" supposedly derives
from "rotar" - spin, Spanish. He spins in his teleport.
14. Jarek Means "new dawn". "Jar" is Slovakian for "spring" and "ek" is additional in Turkish.
Jarek is an additional spring (new dawn) for the Black Dragon in Mortal Kombat 4 after Kano's predicted death.
15. Darrius Greek for "possessor". Also means "kingly", attempting to rule of Seido.
16. Reiko Japanese for "loving child" being a Shao Kahn's worthy henchman.
17. Fujin Fujin derives from the Shinto god of wind of the same name.
18. Bo Rai'Cho Derives from "Borracho" which means a drunk man in Spanish.
19. Mavado Comes from "malvado", Spanish, which means evil or villainous.
20. Hotaru "Firefly" in Japanese.
21. Nightwolf In his Animality he transforms into a wolf.
22. Mokap Derives from "mo-cap". Mokap is a tribute to a Midway employee,
Carlos Pesina, who does motion captures for the characters.
23. Johnny Cage Kage, Japanese, means "shadow". Cage performs shadow kicks. (What about Johnny?)
24. Kano "Kano" comes from "Cain". Cain is the evil brother in the
Christian Bible story, the first human to commit murder. Kano is evil.
25. Jax Comes from his full name Jackson Briggs. Supposedly, Jackson comes from "Jacques", French, which means "supplanter" and Briggs from "bridges". He is a supplanter and a crucial link for Special Forces and Sonya Blade.
26. Kai Kai is a rare Japanese dog species. Kai is strong, decicated, dark, Asian and has white stripes on his limbs.
27. Kenshi Means "sword saint" primarily. Also it means "swordsman" in Japanese and "fist of the poem". A common name in Japan. "Kensei" means "sword saint" in Japanese which he's called in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance.
28. Shujinko Japanese for "protagonist".
29. Hsu Hao Hsu Hao means "good compromised". "Hsu" means promise or compromised. "Hao" means good.
30. Kobra Comes from Cobra Kai, the karate school in Karate Kid
movies and the letter "K" is a trademark of Mortal Kombat.
31. Khameleon She is a Saurian which is a reptilian race and the letter "K" is to show the difference between her and Chameleon, it's also a trademark of Mortal Kombat. Also changes color while fighting and blends into the environment.
32. Daegon From the Middle Eastern deity "dagon", meaning "grain" or "rain cloud". Daegon is Taven's
little brother who grew up to be evil and causing bad things.
33. Liu Kang Means "healthy willow". "Liu" means willow, and "kang" means healthy.
34. Kung Lao Means "Great experience". Kung meaning great, Lao meaning old or experienced.
35. Shang Tsung "Shang" is a Chinese dynasty dated from 1766-1122 B.C. and also there is "Shanghai" which is when a person is kidnapped upon a ship, Shang Tsung steals the person’s soul upon defeat. (What about Tsung?)
36. Quan Chi Quan Chi is "spring of energy". Quan is a name that's said
to be translated to "water spring". "Chi" is similar to "Qi" which is energy flow.
37. Shinnok "Shin" is a common Japanese name. (What about the "nok" part?)
38. Raiden Raiden comes from "rayden" which means a god of thunder.
39. Taven "Tave" is Lithuain for "you" as you control him in MK: Armageddon. The letter "n" is added being common
for god characters (Taven, Rain, Daegon, Fujin, Raiden). His early names were "Bob" and "Hero".
40. Sonya Blade Sonya is Mortal Kombat's co-creator's Ed Boon's sister's name. (What about Blade?)
41. Kitana Ki (Qi, Chi) is the "energy flow" in all living creatures. Tana is a legitimate form of
the name Tanya, which is also the name of Ed Boon’s sister.
42. Mileena Slavic meaning "favored". She was meant to be flawless,
favored by everyone and she wishes to be favored over Kitana.
43. Jade Comes from her green costume.
44. Ashrah Arabic for "ten".
45. Li Mei Means "tall sprout". "Li" is a Chinese measurment standardized as 500 meters. "Mei" is a Japanese name and
depending on how it is written means, sprout, garment, reliant, or bright.
46. Tanya Tanya is Mortal Kombat's co-creator Ed Boon's other sister's name.
47. Frost The name comes from her frigid life and special moves.
48. Sindel Sindel comes from "Sindelia" which means "Armageddon" in Greek. In Mortal Kombat 3, Shao Kahn revived her and caused Armageddon at the same time
49. Nitara "Deep-rooted" in Hindu.
50. Kira Kira means "killer". Kira is a common name in Japanese culture.
It's a stereotypical Japanese pronounciation of "killer".
51. Sareena Means clear, tranquil and serene. Reference to her beautifulness.
52. Sheeva A many armed goddess in Buddhism.
53. Baraka Baraka means "blessed" in Arabic.
54. Motaro Comes from "Momotaro", a Japanese legend.
55. Havik Havik is from Chaosrealm where everything is chaotic, Havik comes from havoc.
56. Drahmin Min: a Egyptian god of fertility, Drah: a measurement, approximately 70 centimeters.
57. Moloch a common demon name, found in countless stories and mythologies, including the Christian Bible.
58. Meat Meat is a skinless character, whose costume consists mainly of his meat.
59. Shao Kahn Means "laughing king". Shao is a Chinese girls' name which means laughter.
Kahn is derived from the word "Khan" which means king or emperor.
60. Goro "Oro" is Italian for "gold". Goro has won gold for his victories in the MK tournaments.
They added "G" from "gold" to make the name sound better.
61. Kintaro Kintaro comes from a Japanese folk-story hero, Kintarõ. Also means 'big daddy'.
62. Onaga the Dragon King "Naga" is Sanskrit for snake and dragon. The former king of Outworld.
63. Blaze Blaze is a flaming character. Originally he was meant to be named Torch.
64. Skarlet her costume is scarlet colored, which is a shade of red. The letter "K" is Mortal Kombat's trademark.
65. Kidd Thunder He is a kid version of Raiden, the god of thunder.
66. Beth Melewski In Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks' death screen there reads "Free princess Melewski", It's a hint to
talking to Kitana to try and free her, allowing you access to fighting Kano. She was the voice artist for Kitana in the game.
67. No-Face Has no face.
68. Tasia Tasia is an uncommon name in the US.
69. Tremor Tremor has an ability to cause earthquakes and tremors.
70. Gemini Latin for "twin". (How related?)
71. Damashi Damashi means in some Asian language "deception".
72. Argus Argus is the name of the most ancient city in Greece, full of archaeological monuments.
73. Delia A common English name, it means "from Delios". Delios is an island in Greece, and birth place of twin gods Artemis and Apollo. Delia gave birth to two half gods.
74. Wu Lae (Tengu clan leader) (Is it just an Asian name?)
75. Monster Monster was meant to be just an anonymous
monster, yet he became a bit more popular than supposed to.
76. Kia A common name in Asia. (Nothing deeper?)
77. Jataaka "Jata" is Serbian for "cluster". The "aka" was just added.
Jataaka and Kia are clusters of each other. (Nothing deeper?)
78. Orin Comes from "urine" being colored gold.
79. Caro "Dear" in Italy, Caro being a faithful friend to Arguses family.
80. Apep An "Apep" was a demon in Egyptian mythology.
81. Hornbuckle Derived from a Mortal Kombat team employee Leanne Hornbuckle.
82. Takeda Common Japanese last name closely associated with the Takeda clan of the 16th century.
83. Sdrawde Lhup In Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks they told in the death screen: "100,000,000 points if you defeat Sdrawde Lhup". The name is "Puhl Edwards" backwards, they are two surnames of people who worked on the game.

01. Earthrealm A Mortal Kombat realm in our Earth.
02. Outworld A realm formerly unknown to Earthrealm warriors.
03. Chaosrealm A realm now with great chaos inside.
04. Seido the Orderrealm Orderrealm is the opposite of Chaosrealm,
Seido is about law and order. (What about Seido?)
05. Zaterra "Terra" is Latin for 'Earth'. (What about "za"?)
06. Edenia Edenia is a paradise of many kingdoms.
07. Netherrealm Netherrealm is a nether realm where many have been condemned into.
08. Living Forest A forest of living, feral, eating trees located in Outworld.
09 Vaeturnus "Vae" comes from the Latin meaning "woe". Turnus was a King in Virgil's Aeneid
who lost his betrothed and his land in a battle with a foreigner; similar to the battle with Shao Kahn.

Groups, Races & Organizations:
01. Black Dragon Inspired from the real-world syndicate Black Dragon.
02. Red Dragon Comes from a red dragon Caro to whom the clan is centered.
03. Special Forces They are the Earthrealm's special forces against the foreign realms.
04. Tekunin Japanese, and means 'tech-ninja'.
05. Lin Kuei "Forest demons" The Lin Kuei were an extremely secretive clan

06. Tengu Means "half man, half bird" and Japanese arrogant spirits. In a legend they were on Earth before humans.
07. Shirai Ryu Japanese names, Shirai meaning "White Well" and Ryu
meaning "Dragon". Shirai Ryu means "White Well Dragon".
08. Tarkata "Kata" is the Japanese word for a choreographed movements used for practicing
martial arts, similar to Tarkatans smoothness. (What about the "tar" part?)
09. White Lotus The White Lotus Society derives from a former Buddhist sectarian movement in China.
10. Shokan "Shoka" is Swahili for "axe", Shokans are brutal and trustworthy aides.
11. Deadly Alliance An alliance of destruction which formerly consisted of Shang Tsung and Quan Chi.
Raiden joined the group later for at least a short period.
12. Oni Japanese for "demon" and Polish for "they". In MK1 "they" were just "demons" with no further purpose.

Miscellaneous:
01. Mortal Kombat Fight to death.
02. Toasty A slang word for comfortably warm. Originally used during Scorpion's fatality in MKII, sarcastically.
03. Frosty In Mortal Kombat Trilogy Dan Forden says "Frosty!" after a certain prodecure when played as Sub-Zero.
04. Fatality Fatality is a fatal ending move.
05. Brutality Brutality is similar to Fatality but more brutal.
06. Animality Animality is similar to Fatality but in this you always transform into an animal, insect, etc.
07. Multality In Multality you kill multiple enemies.
08. Friendship Friendship is a friendlier ending move opposed to Fatality.
09. Crispy In Mortal Kombat Trilogy Shao Kahn says "Crispy!" in Scorpion's Lair during the pit Fatality.

I forgot to answer your post earlier, Ermacisballin, (The word "kai" actually means "upgraded" or "updated") but the meaning is not condracictory with the fact that "kai" means also a Japanese dog species. It's good that you mentioned the meaning though, but it's not just very relevant with the character.

Good find, TerrorHurtz. The information seems relevant. Can you find more of these? I found a couple of new names, I think we have pretty much all the names then (minus some obvious ones such as The Void and The Heavens).

The new names are: King Jerrod (the former Edenian king), Moroi Empire (Vaeturnusian faction of vampires) and Kochal (a god first met in Netherrealm of Mortal Kombat: Deception Konquest). Now let's get all the few name origins out and complete the list. We would need answers to the questions listed below.
The origins lacking information:
01. Kabal's condition (proof/contradiction)
02. Johnny Cage's first name
03. Shang Tsung's surname
04. Sonya Blade's surname
05. How is Gemini's twin meaning related to her?
06. What does Tengu's leader's name Wu Lae mean?
07. Does Kia not have any further naming backgrounds?
08. Does Jataaka have anything else in her naming?
09. What does Seido mean?
10. What does the "tar" part mean in Tarkata?
11. What does Jerrod mean? (added)
12. What does Kochal mean? (added)
13. What does Moroi mean? (added)

Well for Johnny (Cage), John/Johnny is a common name of a character or actor in the movie business (John Travolta, Johnny Depp, John Connor, etc.) while it stays close to the first name of what Johnny Cage was originally going to be portrayed as (Jean Calude Van Damme, Jean/Johnny similarities) when the MK team were trying to produce a Van Damme game. This of course leads to him having the famous nut cracker move from Van Damme's film Bloodsport.

Well if you get off the whole word meanings thing, Kitana is a slight variation of Katana, a long sword, which if I recall, Kenshi uses.

Well if you get off the whole word meanings thing, Kitana is a slight variation of Katana, a long sword, which if I recall, Kenshi uses.

You're right, hahaha_thejoker! I should have remembered that, so Johnny Cage is sort of his "actor name" like some other actors have a bit different calling names like J'Lo for example. John Carlton it is.

Yeah, Van Damme is great, his movies are really good. I don't really know the latest news in the movie industry but do you know, will there be new movies of his soon? This is almost off-topic, but Van Damme and Mortal Kombat do have a connection though.

It's good that you mention things like that (katana) but I don't see really see any proper link with them now. Katana sure is long but Kitana's hair wasn't notably long at the moment she debuted. "Shoka" (Shokan) means an axe though so this wouldn't be the first name being named after a weapon. Also, there is Sonya Blade. Katana is sharp though and Kitana does have the sharp steel fans.

Can you find any other connection with Kitana and a katana? Then I might mention it in the list. There are some other names with near connection with some other words, such as Nitara - kitara. Kitara is Finnish and means a guitar but I don't really see any connection between them. Oh and the Kochal - coin connection, Trini_Bwoi. Can you find any more proofs of it, T/B or anybody else?

Now what about these else? It's twelve to go. I feel that these should be easy to solve at least: 01, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07, 08 and 10.

09. What does the "tar" part mean in Tarkata?
10. What does Jerrod mean?
11. What does Kochal mean?
12. What does Moroi mean?
