The Death of Mortal Kombat?

Ok I may get slightly flamed for even thinking this, but is MK dead and gone? Is Armageddon seriously the finale?
I've been a fan since the first game came out. So I was here for all the games' releases, and for me, and it may not be so (I don't have my MK history completely down), this seems like the longest stretch in between games.
I guess the only reason I post this is because I fear for a great game's death, one that I really don't want to see happen.
What do you all think? If I'm the only one that thinks it might be over and done with I'll probably feel a lot better.

Well there is going to be MK8. MK: Armageddon was "the end of the generation" and MK8 is supposed to be a new beginning with very few characters returning from the past. Ever since MKDA, MK has been declining in my opinion. MK8 will determine whether or not it will live.

I don't believe Midway would make the same mistake twice. Especially since we're in the Next Gen era of gaming and MK8 is the first MK game on all 3 consoles.

Same here, just not as good as the ol' days.
yeah sitting there playing mkda only to see mkd coming out and it had a great gameplay (to mk standards) and fun and deeply hidden storyline. yep that was like 1-5 years ago.
and people still act the same way they did before.

If MK was to die it would be the end of a GREAT game
But it is in need of a revamp so i think killing off some characters is a good idea
60+ characters? thats desperation but other than that, Long Live MK!!!!

That's what scares me about MK8 the most. AFAIK MKD and MKA both sold pretty well. But the gameplay of both was basically attrocious. So the MK team knows really good, solid gameplay isn't necessary to make money.
If they know a formula that will make them money, they are obligated to use it since they are a business and their purpose is to make money. But, if they continue going the way they've been, the games will continue to be relatively unfun to play and will continue to be the joke fighting game series on the market.
If they made a really solid fighter, and fans latched on to it, people would keep on playing it for the next 10 years. But, that isn't necessarily the best way to make money :-(
