I don't think anyone won it, man. I don't even think there was a tournament. I think they basically halted all story line progressions from Deception.

If you see his card in PE, Ed Boon says that he's been MK hero from MK1 to MK4. With MK5 they wanted to "change direction": that is why he has been killed. I think also to satisfy those fans (like me) who hated him. After his murder, he came back as a Zombie, and many people like him better!! And for his traditional fans, they always put normal liu kang as second costume!!
I think they did the right thing, his chains are quite cool!!

why wouldn't liu kang be in a MK, it would be stupid while we're at it lets take out sub-zero, scorpion, noob-saibot, reptile, raiden, rain, li mei, kitanan, and everyone else, and then you can have a piece of crap game, that sucks, have fun with that.
he is in mk, because he is a pillar in the game, whether you like it or not, he is extremely popular.

I liked it when Shang Tsung killed Liu Kang because then he couldn't win the Deadly Alliance Tournament (which was won by Li Mei). But you know what they had to do for Deception? They had to bring him back! Fortunately, it's implied that Scorpion won that tournament instead of Liu Kang.
For Armageddon, Liu Kang should be killed and he should pass down the torch to someone like Kung Lao or Kai, like how Raiden should pass the torch down to Fujin (which was meant to happen in Mortal Kombat 4).

People should realise if they don't like a character they don't have to be that character. There are a lot of other ones. Also a little tidbit. Kai would of never been created if Lui was'nt. Well I can see why Li Mei won that. I don't think anyone of importance (except Li Mei) participated and it was'nt a main storyline.

Beside Sub-Zero, Liu Kang is the ONLY character which had been in EVERY MK since MK5: that is why he has been removed.
I list below MK1 character (if a character wasn't in MK1 like Jax, he CAN'T have been in ALL MK, logical or not?)
Kano: Not in MK2
Liu Kang: Not in MK5
Rayden: Not in MK3/UMK3
Johnny Cage: Not in MK3/UMK3
Scorpion: Not in MK3
Sub-Zero: ALL MK GAMES (not in Special Forces, but...)
Sonia: not in MK2
That is why he has been removed: he was the HERO of the situation, and midway wanted to change it.
If it will make you happy, the ONLY tournament (or battle, if you prefear) when Liu wasn't there is the ONLY tournament that Earthrealm lost...
And to pay back Liu Kang's fan they released a game based only on him and his collegue, Kung Lao!! (MKSM)
