Glitched Survival Mode?

For some reason, Survival Mode always freezes on the load screen before Stage 4.
Also.. on stage 2 and 3, it looks as if the stages arent completely loaded. Some of the walls and floor appear to be missing graphics, as they are simply black or transparent. Is that normal? At first I thought maybe they removed them for processing purposes, to help the slowdown. But since it always freezes before stage 4, I'm thinking its part of whatever is going wrong.
I loaded up an earlier save also. Just before you test your might and get the axe, but it still glitches and freezes later. The only other thing I can think of to try is to leave the Foundry and go back, then go to survival mode and see. I'm just tired of playing the first three stages right now only to have it freeze, so I will try it later.
Any suggestions or insight?
