at the door it says i need an offering, what do have to offer?

If you look to the side there is a wall you can run up. (in the garden before the bridge). Then swing from the bamboo and hit action button.
The door should open.

exactly, then it'll open for you, Ermac is the statue to the far...left I believe, Haven't played it in a while, interact with him a bunch of times.
