I really don't see a gigantic space dragon being playable which is why I like Ridley better as a boss. It's almost like saying you want Rayquaza to be playable but it being a boss was much better. Sure he's awesome, but I just don't see him playable. Is this...A 'Ridley's too big' argument I see before me? Sir, I expected better of you. Know that you have just opened Pandora's Box. As I have already stated, Ridley's popularity is insane. Even if we disregard Metroid’s dire need for a few more valid playable characters (i.e. ones with more than a bit part in one f*cking game), he is one of the oldest, greatest and most recognisable villains in Nintendo's history. Period. After it was revealed that he was not playable in Brawl, the forum riots went on for days. Not only has he topped every single 'Who do you wan't in Super Smash Bros. 4' poll - effortlessly crushing fan favourites like Krystal, Geno and Midna - but a respected gaming magazine actually had the gall to ask Sakurai in a post-Brawl interview 'Were there ever plans to make Ridley a playable character'? Now Masahiro Sakurai - creator of Super Smash Bros. – has witnessed firsthand how influential Ridley’s fan-following is. What do you think all of this says for the character's chances? There is absolutely no reason for Ridley to be excluded from Smash Bros any longer than he already has. His combat skills are top-notch, his ferocity is revered, and –in storyline at least – his legendary cruelty makes for a bundle that puts him alongside such antagonistic legends as Ganondorf. In short, he is a badass, and people want to play as the cream of the badass crop in fighting games. Honestly, a gamer must be some kind of wet Jigglypuff-nut if he is to overlook Ridley’s mountains of potential in a game such as Smash Bros. Can you not imagine him wrestling Charizard, dog-fighting Meta Knight or eviscerating Pikachu? Would it not be awesome to swoop over the battlefield, blitzing it with fireballs, only to dive bomb Toon Link for an unexpected session of disembowelling? Is it not manically fun, to use your lighting speed to shoot all up and down the stage, mutilating foes in a vicious frenzy of talons, teeth and tail? You may wonder as to why I have taken this long to mention the size argument itself. Simple. The argument is utter Bullsh*t. A trifle that does not require much urgency at all to discard with all of the other garbage. The reason why one cannot imagine your Rayquazas, your Groundons, and even your Kraids in a Smash Bros. Game – besides the fact that nobody gives a flying f*ck for such meaningless characters – is that their size is everything. It is their defining feature. Ridley’s defining features are his speed, his intensity, his malice; being the size of a small house is merely an added bonus, and as such, rescaling is no problem. I’m not sure if you’ve noticed, but Smash Bros’ roster is already rife with resized models. Pikachu should be able to sit comfortably of a Pokemon trainer’s shoulder. Link height barely reaches Ganondorf’s chest in Twilight Princess. Kirby should theoretically be no higher than Mario’s knee. Olimar...needs no explanation. And Bowser? He has been at least Ridley’s height in past Mario games (heck, I swear I’ve seen him Godzilla-size before), and yet no one had a single qualm to present concerning his addition to Melee, did they? Resizing Rayquaza would not only be pointless due to low popularity and awkward due to body shape, but simply balls due to the fact that his monstrous proportions are the only thing that he has going for him. Why are people so desperate to let such a retarded point get in the way of such an awesome addition to the roster! ...Okay, I’ve used up all of my rant rage now. Not to be overly aggressive to you in particular: I just feel very strongly about Ridley in SSB.

Sub-cero posted: I know that Ridley is extremely popular and all, but like FreezingFanz said if he is added then he'll be shrinked down tremondously. I'm pretty sure they would've added him in Brawl until they thought logic in the game and saw that Ridley would look ridiculous in a small size. Based on the latest Metroid game, Ridley is huge. How awkward to see a "small" Ridley. I never said I wanted Rayquaza or something like that in the game, I was using it to make a point which you ultimitely failed to understand. Why did Nintendo not add Ridley in the game as a karacter anyways? Kare to explain. Edit: I'm not a real biggy about it and all ok. Just look at it this way. You get all you people want, Ridly playable. Resized and everything, but he doesn't look the way you all wanted too. You fanboys would be all pissed and krap, which is probably a reason why Nintendo didn't make him playable but I really don't know. It's just a guess.
BlackLesnar posted: That ignores the basic point that I’ve been trying to make! Ridley’s size is not paramount! If his only form of attack in the Metroid games was to go up to Samus and fall on her – crushing her under his huge weight – then you would have made a fair point, but that is not the case! He claws. He bites. He whips. He ravages. He dive-bombs. He fires all manner of projectiles from every orifice. Believe it or not, these are all actions that Space Dragons can still perform regardless of how big they might be! If a character model were created for Smash 4 that kept true to Ridley’s animalistic ferocity, he could be the size of one of Olimar’s pikmin and nobody would complain! I think it is safe to say that Ridley’s popularity is not the issue here. In fact, in terms of longevity, recognisability and meaningfulness, only Bowser and Ganondorf rank higher in terms of Nintendo villains. I guess that the problem is visualisation. The gaming world looks to be split on this topic, and it seems as though – whereas many have no problems whatsoever in imagining a rescaled Ridder’s tearing up Mushroom Kingdom or what have you – some just cannot get their heads around that picture. Whether if it’s problems that they have with proportioning, or physics, or just how one could squeeze so much awesome into such a practical package, I do not know. Maybe that’s why he did not feature in Brawl. Sakurai was unsure of the ratio of that imagination within the gaming community, so he gave Ridley the more-familiar boss role initially, and oversaw the general reaction. Considering that more than one very-significant ‘We want Ridley!’ source has reached him directly, I daresay that he is now certain as to how urgent the character’s inclusion next-time-around is. Oh, and as fun as it would be to exchange petty names, I am not necessarily a fanboy in this respect. Sure, I now own several Metroid games, with more on the way, but I only started collecting ages after I bought Brawl, and I was completely sold on the Ridley argument long before that. You do not need to be a Metroid addict to want the series’ main baddie in Super Smash Brothers: you just need the common sense to realise how epic it would be to play as the maniacal, ravenous, vindictive Space Pirate in a stylish beat ‘em up.
