Midway was predicting losses, so I don't think this will be a problem. Unfortunately, Midway really needs a big hit soon or they may find themselves in serious trouble. I think they were pretty disappointed with Stranglehold sales, so for their sake, I hope MK vs DC exceeds sales expectations.

If SquareEnix can pull off Disney/Final Fantasy, Midway can pull off MK/DC.

I'm no financial expert, but that can't be good.

I'd rather give birth to a chair than see an MK vs. DC crossover game. 'Nuff said. For the record, I'll say this. I like both MK and DC, but I don't think they belong together.

Well Midway can't really blame anyone but themselves. I mean their games haven't exactly been top sellers. Area 51 and the Ballers series have been a huge dissapointment. Stranglehold was a great game but was way too short. Lets just hope that MK vs DC and the TNA game do well so that MK doesn't die along with Midway.
It's possible someone could always buy the rights to MK. I mean god forbid a company like EA gets their hands on MK but I rather have that then have no MK at all. Ed Boon could always start a new game studio and look for a new publisher. So I'm not worried.

By following the the trend, one can see that while there were losses, it is still a good sign. I know, sounds stupid, but follow me on this one...
According to the previous three quarters' revenue and losses, and comparing that to the revenue and losses of the last quarter, we see a gradual climb in profits.
r-C=P, where r is revenue, C is cost, and P is profit (simplified form for those who aren't familiar with Economics).
r1-C1=P1 < r2-C2=P2
The negative profits (or losses) found in the last quarter are less than the previous quarters, which shows a climb, a good thing for Midway which has been suffering. While the next quarter is also expected to be a loss, we do see that this trend will continue if the predictions hold up. But why is is Midway in the hole to begin with?
I don't know about their finances or marketing strategies, but I can tell you from my opinion that the drop in sales previously could be a result in the lack of innovation found in their games. "More of the same" doesn't sell as well as it used to, and players aren't going to pay high prices for a game very similar to its predecessor. We see this with the EA Sports titles, and EA's drastic drop in the prices of the newer sports games. Maybe Midway should do this, try to work with a lower starting price and a larger supply to increase demand, maybe even change the target market of their titles (a drop in ESRB ratings through changing the content to cast a wider net). Who knows, but one can only hope that with the release of TNA Impact (after a long delay) as well as MK vs DCU, that Midway itself can get out of the red.

I don't think that these troubles may affect MK vs. DCU. Probably MK vs. DCU is just a reason to get help from Warner Bros and DC Comics (in money). Otherwise they won't do it.
So be cool.

This isn't simply Warner Bros Interactive (video game division), but also DC Comics. Warner Bros Entertainment will be making a fair bit of money with the new Batman movie, The Dark Knight, very soon, and comic sales from DC Comics (which is under the banner of Warner Bros Entertainment, which itself is part of the Time Warner company) are doing fairly well. It isn't simple "weak" video games (I like Justice League Heroes was a great game), but also DVD sales and merchandising (t-shirts for example) where they are making their money. And yes, Midway is the one who is suffering now, and by "hitching their wagon" to the DC license, they should be able to pull in a fair bit of cash to help them financially.

Keep in mind that virtually all of the intellectual property rights associated with Mortal Kombat are owned by Midway, not Ed Boon.
If Midway to capsize, yes, the rights to Mortal Kombat might transfer out... But the fates of the MK Design Team and even Ed Boon are anything but certain.
And don't forget that developers have a hard time repeating their success when they switch brands.
As much as I hate to say it, we saw that happen with Tobias.

I'm pretty sure UTIII on the 360 won't be a top seller. MS isn't even on board for free user created content. Anyone who is serious about UTIII picked it up for the PC in November. I know I did.
