Hello all. I don't know if this has been covered in a previous post, didn't bother looking and the search thing seems broken. I just wanted to ask if midway is planning a new gauntlet at all, hopefully for ps3? Ive been looking to get a copy to play with freinds and I was kind of looking at dark legacy and seven sorrows, I might actually get a used copy of dark legacy, but it seems kind of oldschool after playing dynasty warriors 6 for a week (I love their game engine!!!)

I was thinking of stuff id like to see in it, maybe skill trees for each of the classes, like upgrades for your special attacks/magic/new combat moves so leveling up has an extra bonus on top of just getting stronger. Tamable familiars would be cool, they could have different abilities, familiars that shoot fire/ice/lightning/etc. familiars that heal, or fly around grabbing items and powerups for you. In addition to having unlockable characters maybe also have unlockable costumes? or ones you can buy at shops?

Anyways was just thinking out loud, would be cool if they make a new one.

We have discussed this a few times on the boards, but that's ok. I'm a big Gauntlet fan and I don't mind talking about it more. I don't think there are any plans AS OF YET to make a new Gauntlet game but I would love to see one.

They really should make another like Dark Legacy. Even though 7 sorrows was gorgeous graphically, the gameplay wasn't nearly as good as Dark Legacy. Dark Legacy had so much replay value it was ridiculous. Just thinking about it now makes me want to go play it again as one of the many hidden characters. I'm pretty sure if Midway makes another Gauntlet like that one and gives us an online play option everyone would love it.

Things that gave Gauntlet its replay value:

Tons of hidden characters

Hidden boss weapons

Easy yet fun levels

Upgrading characters and familiars

Class specific special moves and familiars

Team special moves!!

Some things I'd like to see in a new Gauntlet:

Upgradable weapons and armor - not just for boss fights, temp power ups or graphical changes as you level, but permanent gear that allows you to customize your character a little bit. People love being able to customize their gameplay experience.
Maybe not as in depth as Champions of Norrath or anything but here and there items that increase stats or beef up your attacks would be cool.

Some kind of powerful weapon somewhere in the game for each available class that you have to work for by doing some kind of long quest.
(For example, collecting all of a certain item found in various levels, going back to a previous level and using those items somewhere to access a boss fight which yields a weapon designed for a specific class....whatever you get the idea)

STAGE BUILDER! That would be awesome, especially online. People could create dungeons and offer each other online challenges! I can see it now... big customized mazes with lots of treasure, keys, traps and monsters. Oh and level objectives? Besides finding runestones and exits? That would be a cool feature to have in the main game AND in stage builder mode.

Downloadable content! They tried this with Toejam and Earl 3 and it didn't do so well but now people play online a lot more. I think it would be cool to be able to download extra levels from Midway or share your created levels with other players online.

I think these things would add a great deal of replay value to a Gauntlet game and make it just about as epic as Smash bros or Mortal Kombat. Being able to unlock new content and customize content gives people something to work for and a reason to keep playing. Doing it online and seeing what other people have keeps it interesting.

Thoughts?

Yeah that sounds awesome, lots of good ideas. I heard seven sorrows was kind of a flop, but never played it. I really got into gauntlet with gauntlet legends for n64, I loved it. I spent weeks beating all the levels and finding all the weapons, runes, and leveling up. I just got a ps3 and im hoping they make a new one. I looked for dark legacy at gamestop but they didnt have it. *sniff* sad

Eidos announced a Wi-Fi Gauntlet game for the DS.

It's being developped by Backbone. I think those guys made UMKDS.

It's a remake of the 1985 Gauntlet, it'll have 3D graphics.

I'll be getting that. Too bad I don't know anyone with a DS that would play it with me. We REEEEAAAALLY need a new Gauntlet for the wii or ps3 or something. Come on Midway!

Backbone did MK2 and Joust for the PlayStation Network. UMKDS was ported by Midway itself. Which is why it is so awesome. grin
