A question

I was always wondering.
We call midway the guys making Mortal kombat. But what I dont understand is. Ed boon is the leader of the team making MK. Isnt there seperate teams that work for midway and make different games? Like im sure the guys making MK arent the same guys making Rush, or John Woo right? Theres different teams?

I'm sure there are other teams, and I'm sure Ed Boon supervises each project in turn, but as Mortal Kombat is Midway's biggest game, I guess everyone just refers to Midway as "The guys who make Mortal Kombat" Cause then everyone would know what you are talking about, cause even the non video game players will most probably have heard the name Mortal Kombat somewhere, and have a rough idea what it is all about.

To be honest I don't know the first thing about the Midway team, I was just guessing about Ed Boon as well.

This is how I understand it: For the most part, the guys working on MK only do MK though they may be asked to help on another project if the man power is sorely needed. But teams that did Psi-Ops, for example, moved on to new franchises like Stranglehold.
Then you have core groups of people like your producers, designers and other leads that typically focus on specific franchises like Blitz or Ballers but the artists and programmers may move from project to project depending on where they're needed.
Then you have specialized teams who work on almost every game. This includes User Interface, Technical Tools, Cinematics, etc.
I'd say Midway does about 50% of projects in house. 40% they seek out smaller developers to develop the project for them. And 10% like Lord of the Rings Online and Unreal, the game is already being developed by someone else and Midway gets a contract to publish it. Publishing usually means they advertise and distribute the product.

Ed Boon is the Lead Designer and programmer for Mortal Kombat. But due to his lengthy experience in the industry he is often consulted for advice on other projects. If you check the credits for many of Midway's other games you'll see his name in the Special Thanks or other area.
