Mortal Kombat vs. Street Fighter?

According to Kotaku.com, one of the franchise that Ed Boon considered working with was Street Fighter. He supposedly came close to serious discussions, but inter-company replacements prevented it from coming into fruition.
How would fans have reacted to this? Would the reaction from the MK franchise teaming up with Capcom been any more positive, or would the initial backlash have been as big as it is now? Would there be some relief knowing that Midway would have been teaming with someone that's had a deep history in the fighting genre?

I think MK vs. SF is what every fan of either series has been looking for ever since MK1. It really is a shame that they couldn't make things work because that might have been the fighter to end all fighters. It could have been arcade only, no story at all, and it would have been awesome.
Oh well, this is a good second place.

What if it had been restricted to a Teen rating? Would a lack of gory fatalities and massive amounts of blood still be an issue, or would having Street Fighter be enough to overlook those features?

you know, I really don't think that would be good in fact it might be worse (I'm getting flamed for this)
Some reasons why
1.Street Fighter has NEVER had blood in any of their fighting games(I think)
2.With no blood, you know there will be no fatality's, and probably no finishing systems either, and I want to rip Ryu's head off with Subby every day
3.Street Fighter has NEVER been dark/gritty (or in my opinion)so making them dark/gritty would be hard
4.Countless amount of people would come to the midway boards to say "Ryu could kick Scorpions a**) or other useless topics like that
there other reasons as well, but these are the mains..........also does SF have a story?

The MK vs. SF that I had always envisioned was actually more a hack than an actual game, using the original sprites from MK1 and SF2. The SF2 characters had no fatalities and the blood was ridiculous. It's probably been somewhere already.
Later versions of SF had super finisher combos and the like, it could have happened. They could have darkened it up. I don't want to remind anyone of street fighter: the movie: the game but you could match those characters up with the MK ones pretty well.

It does, but they're never completely clear based on the game alone. As of now, certain events' canonicity is heavily debated, much like Mortal Kombat games.

Mortal Kombat vs. Street Fighter, I still wouldn't like the idea. "omg are you serious?" Yes, sure it was a dream to have a MK vs SF...BACK THEN. Guess what, I already experienced that..it's called M.U.G.E.N therefore my interest for a real game decreased. Then came MK Armageddon, making Akuma and Guile and ugly Ken and Ryu, with fake versions of their signature moves, it wasn't a pleasant feeling. Therefore my interest for a real increased again to the point that I don't want that dream no more.

ya but if this sort of thing happened there are a few questions that you have think about:
1. why do games like Marvel vs. Capcom and MK vs. DC work? well because one franchise's characters come from comic books only, and one comes from video games only. they have nothing to do with each other, and their would be no debate on what fighting engine to use because you would obviously use the video game companies engine.
2. who would the delveloper be?
well of course all the MK fans would say "well the MK engine is best" and the SF fans would say "well its a no brainer, the SF engine is best." so there is a problem there. does Capcom use MK characters, or would Midway use SF characters? that would be hard to solve.
making a game like this is like making a Nintendo vs. SEGA fighting game. two video game companies coming together and making a fighting game just cant work...

I actually think that Street Fighter fans would generally oppose this. There is a degree of, shall we say, elitism in the SF community when it comes to MK, which is seen as inferior and based wholly on gimmicks. That's my general impression of the community, though I could be wrong there.

hmm this sounds great back in 1991-93 with sega in it's prime
but like sega midway isn't that big of a compeditor for capcom and having a crossover would seem like a petty act.
im not that sorry about this truth but most people outside of this forum think mk vs. dc is dc petty act for midway.
