Instead of manually inputting a joystick motion and button presses to do Fatalities, what if they were automatically done from the knockout blow?

In a match, for example, Sub-Zero could freeze somebody and uppercut them. It's the same effect as always because they're not dead yet. But if he does this when they're life's down to a pixel, and then he freezes and uppercuts them, they shatter just as they would from his old Fatality from the previous games because they lost from the uppercut.

Or how about when Scorpion throws his spear, and if it's the final blow, the spear punctures their heart and rips it out instead of simply dragging them towards Scorpion as if they were still alive?

I think this way, everyone could have more than just two or three Fatalities, and more focus could be put on balancing the characters more.

Sounds like a good idea, but what if you sweep somebody or throw them, will every move be a finisher?

Maybe for some characters, but not always. I'd imagine subtle changes like head rips, spine rips, torso rips or soul sucking can all be done in place of a normal throw as a finisher, but only for characters that had these Fatalities in older games.

But at any rate, if you still want to kill them after a non-lethal move like a sweep, they can get up dizzied like before. It's only fair. You just finish them off with a special like you would normally.

Also, things that were just Fatalities before could be made into special moves, like Scorpion's fire breath (could he do this anytime in UMK3? I forget). I also think this could eliminate the more stupid finishing moves like Friendships or Animalities. They added nothing to Mortal Kombat and weren't the least bit impressive.

Point is, Fatalities have always felt tacked on to the game, but if they do this, there can be more artistic merit to them. This is just what Samurai Shodown did. Not all the moves were made for lethal finishers, but it was almost as violent as MK and it didn't detract from the gameplay. Darkstalkers did the same thing too to an extent. Some characters had moves that could split you half. If you lost to those moves, your character wouldn't merge back together again.

It makes a lot more sense to kill someone in battle than simply beat the crap out of them and THEN finish them.

Inputting commands feels more accomplishing IMO.
