Official MK 7 Gameplay Discussion

Ok, this topic will be the official gameplay thread. What do you think the new gameplay should be like?
Well Deadly Alliance to me was like starting from scratch and working from the gound up to bring an old school feel to a 3D MK game. Each character had 1 fatality and that was that. So to me, DA was like MK1 but in 3D. Deception, was much better, the same gameplay/style system we love but now they add in stage fatalies or actually death traps cause they can be done anytime in a match. Every guy has 2 fatalities and something new, a Hara Kiri. Now I think number 7 is gonna be the third in the new generation of MK 3D games. But hopefully its actually better and not just cheesy like MK3 was.
Now I think these gameplay ideas sould be considered for MK7.
1) Keep 2 Fatalities for each character.
2) Add Team Fatalities & Team based play
3) And/Or Friendships/Animalities
4) get rid of Hara Kiri
5) Characters
1- alright Deception already has 2 per fighter but there is a certain system that they go by. Only the main parts of the body get ripped off, cut off, decapitated, etc..whatever. The head, arms, legs, or torso. How about they get really detailed & gruesome like 'scorpion's spear shoots into guys head, rips out eye, brings spear back to him, look at the eye with a smirk/eat the eye/burn it with a flame(whatever), then spear into his torso with his hook attack and pull on it until the guys torso gets pulled off.' Thats just a rough idea but hey Id rather see that than the old 'toasty' fatality thats cliche and boring(we've seen it enough).
A good example of this detail are sub-zero's two fatalities in Deception. Sure he could've just froze the guy and ripped his head off but he had to slide backwards and throw it at the guy too. Or freezing the guys legs and sweep kicking his legs off wasn't enough, the guy crawled backwards and he stepped on his torso to make his head explode. Thats detail but to a lesser extent to what I just pitched for scorpion. The idea of 2 gruesome fatalities and a 'funny' fatality like in Shaolin Monks; Kung Lao's friendly & unfriendly rabbit ones. Those were funny and entertaining at the same time. The Shaolin Monks fatalities were really good and Id rather see Lui Kang do his shaolin soccer or flame/flying kick fatalities than the stupid ones in Deception.
2- MK needs to go in a new direction and team based play I think is the way to go. You know how shaolin monks had 'team fatalities' well they were actually just team combos but Id like to see team based play with actual team fatalities. The way it would work is you pick two people to play as, ex: Scorpion & Raiden. You would use the L2 button to switch characters and its still debatable whether they would have thier own health bars and both would just share one. But to even go as far to make little team names(like in Mario Party 6). If you picked Noob Saibot and then Smoke then youd get the team name 'Brotherhood of the Shadow', or 'Deadly Alliance'(Tsung & Chi) or 'Legendary Rivals'(Scorpion & Sub-zero).
Now the team fatality could be one of two things. Either individual to the character whos performing it and the 'support' character helps him out Or its different depending who your support character is. Like, for instance; Scorpion being the one who is performing and Sub-zero is the support character. Just think of the possibilities when you hear the Team Fatality for them two called 'Icy Hell'. you know, the possibilities are endless.
3- Now if the above is addressed and the series does evolve and keep players interested instead delvering more or less the same thing a 3rd time and de-evolving; then I can easily forget about friendships and animalities. if the Team Fatalities were character/support character specific like the name, 'Icy Hell' then just think of how much replay value you can get out of the game. Making weird unlikely teams like say Sonya and Goro. She uses her 'kiss orb' from MK3, the enemy is trapped in the orb and along comes Goro and pounds the shit out of the guy or whatever. Or the team of Goro and Johhny Cage. This ones sick by the way. Goro grabs both arms and legs and intends to strech the persons limbs and while the person is maoning/screaming Cage comes along and does the nut punch for the male characters and rips it off and for the female characters he may do whatever, I cant think of anything, but you get the idea of how much intrigue this team based play & team fatalities can inspire.
4- As good as the hara kiri is. I dont think the MK team can come up with with new interesting ones for each and every character especially if they say theres gonna be the most characters in MK7 than any other MK game. Plus the fact that some were just lame like Kenshi, instead of just slitting your side why dont you just cut your whole torso in half or do it samuria style and just have tons of blood squirting out, it may be basic but its also classic. You know I enjoy scorpion's hara kiri over kenshis and scorpions is just a very basic head snap.
5- Im just happy with 24-26 characters. I hope they bring back some more old ones like maybe Rain, or Sektor(cyrax already got his turn in MK:DA), a character, whether Tsung or Shujinko, that ACTUALLY morphs into other characters. Id personally rather have Tsung back looking like his old self from MK1, yeah that would be sweet. so maybe 12 intial characters then 12 more unlockable then a super secret morph character Tsung, Shujinko, whoever. Also when I say unlockable I mean buyable in the Krypt. I really got annoyed with Knoquest mode cause it wasted so much time trying to find those keys and do everything else. Id much rather have them focus on gameplay like team based play than some alternate mode of play like konquest that in the end wasn't even satisfying to beat. They need to get rid of these boring/lesser known/less favorbale characters like Li Mei, Kobra(he died in Kira's ending anways- so we should be expecting two new recruits for the black dragon clan), theres nothing wrong with an old character like rain jioning the black dragons. the brotherhood of shadow should recruit more like get Sektor back in the mix. Keep Havik cause hes awesome as all hell. I dont think he can die anyways, lol. Uh, get rid of darrius, darriuo(sp?), hotaru, tanya, jade, you know get rid of the insignificant ones. they dont seem that important in the grand scheme of things. Even Bo Rai Cho is not as important say as Kitana or Mileena. Just so we dont get any haters, either keep darrius or get jax back although I like darrius' look better plus his finishers are better. We need reptile back, but in human form. We need Lui Kang back for good but Id rather him be 6 feet under than look like a zombie unless hes gonna have cool finishers and implement those damn hooks hanging from his hands. Sindel im not decided on but I could care less whether she stays or goes. If there gonna put goro in, make it fair to the point where he doesnt do boss damage and he actually has combos and moves like a normal character would have plus obviously finishers. Its pointless to play as a boss character if they are slow and only have 2-3 special moves and no finishers. its boring!
So what does everybody think about that or your own ideas.

Well which part dont you agree on. I wrote 8 paragraphs. What does my post count have to do with anything. I got original ideas. And Im trying to encourage other people to do that same so whats up.
I mean sure I thought the more characters the better. MK: Trilogy, right? Well I wasn't impressed. Most of the characters had the same finishers from previous games and it was more a compilation than anything. I hated the fact that 'my version' at least always froze up and I never got to beat arcade mode with anyone or beat the 8-man tournament. and the slow down from morphing with tsung. So although if MK7 boasts that it'll have the most characters in an MK game or 3D MK game for that matter it'll be harder for game makers to come up with good finishers and it'll be less intriguing for gamers to play because of that. Id rather have a solid line-up than have too many characters with only some of them with good finishers.

Who cares if it was his first post, at least he doesn't post like a n00b, and you're on post, 326 or something. Don't post in all-caps.
I agree with most of what you said, kill_the_wookie.
1.) Definately keep two fatalities per character. Maybe three, but not too more than that.
2.) Team-based play would be so cool. I think that's an excellent idea. They were actually going to put that into MK:DA as a double fatality thing with Quan Chi and Shang Tsung (there's concept art in MK:D Krypy). Also, it was rumored to be in MK4, I think. I think that Noob-Smoke was a test to see if people would like a character like that.
3.) Keep out all other -alities except for Fatalities, Brutalities, and the Team Fatalities if they get incorporated
4.) I liked the Hara-Kiri's. I think they sould stay as they are, one per character. And maybe make them a little more interesting. I liked Kenshi's. His is the tradition Japanese Hara-Kiri the samurai would perform on themselves to maintain an honorable death. For those who didn't know, Kara-Kiri translates from Japanese into "Cutting of the Stomach" or something very similar.
5.) I agree with the 24-26 character number. Putting every character into the game, and still having them all be involved in the storyline would be hard without have some very sucky character developments. Fortunately, Rain and Sektor would be easy to incorporate into the storyline. (Assuming Havik's ending is canon) Rain could meet up with Kitana while she's in Edenia defending something from Kahn. Sektor's clan, the Tekunin, could start wreaking major havok across Japan, and someone could be sent to stop them. Take out Kobra and Hotaru, return lizard Reptile, Tanya (TANYA PWNZ!!11), and the classics.

create character wouldn't make too much sense in my opinion. In MK the storyline is a very important element. Your character wouldn't have a history, so he/she would suck. (and we couldn't discuss those created characters here ).
My personal wish is to have as many characters (old ones) as possible.

i think they should only have 2 faltalites each with some pits and focus more on gameplay and blend the animations better cause the game doesnt run smooth at all, more fluid fighting system and weaons should be gone there just stupid unless there like a weapon they fight with like jade with her staff or katina, cause you can hardly do much with them kinda lame and to much, better to have a solid game than a shity made game with tons or crapin it , cause i think thats what sells the game now is there lots of content but the content isnt that strong, why play that if you can play something else that plays better.

My official reply to this thread:
MK7 should be like Deception as in a 3D fighting game with interactive arenas and keep the death traps in, and they should have the multidirectional feature added in MK:SM.
MK:DA sucked not just coz of the characters but because of the lack of fatalities (didn't have enough) and because the graphics were naff.
Deception was great in every way, except for i would still want to see more fatalities and animalaties etc..
And more characters of course.
MK7 has already been said it will have more characters than any other game so this will be perfect as now we know it will have more than 36 because thats how many were in MK:Trilogy.
They also said that after MK:SM they wanted to continue using the fighting system, which means the multidirectional kombat, combo's and probably the use of the shoulder buttons will be used again with other buttons for special attacks.
1) There should be more than 2 fatalaties per characters
2) Team fatalaties would suck but their should be team play like in MK:Trilogy like the 2 Vs 2 and 8 player kombat modes.
3) Animalaties and brutalaties should be included but we can do without friendships and babalities
4) Yes get rid of Hara Kiri - this was pointless, why would we want to perform a fatality on yourselves???
5) Don't know what you mean by "characters" as it could mean quantity or quality - we already know there will be many characters now we just need to wait and see how good a quality they are and what new ones and old ones are available.
1- I'm sure if they thought about it they could give characters up to 3-4 fatalaties, which will make the game longer as it would have more to see.
For example in MK:SM they had loads of fatalaties for Kung and Liu and to be honest i don't mind if they are just silly little fatalities like Sub Zero freezes his opponent and pushes them backwards and they smash on the floor.
I alone can think up plenty of fatalatied for any character from MK1-MK3, and i'm sure if Ed Boon worked harder he could too, like in MK:SM for Kung and Liu.
2- Team fatalaties will be pointless, it was cool doing the team moves in MK:SM but they should only leave these in RPG MK games not fighting games.
MK fighting games are 1-1 and should stay that way apart from sort of like tag mode where you can change character during fights but thats about as close as they should get.
A lot of people are trying to bring in features from WWE games into MK like create a character and now like create a stable - WHY! they work in WWE games because they are loose and anything can happen but in MK there is a proper story you can't just change by saying Raiden you team up with Scorpion and be called the Lighthouse Family or soemthing like that.
'Icy Hell' - WTF ???? what would be the point?
The possibilities are endless - true but every single one of them would be a stupid idea just like the "Icy Hell" you mentioned.
3- Animalaties kick a$$ and should be included, along with the brutality system they had in MK:SM as this allowed you to string together your own bruality that was cool.
4- Hara Kiri's are pointless - enough said!
5- I am not bothered in number of characters as long as it os over 12 and they had good characters in it, i want to see a lot of old characters return and the new ones updates so they don't look naff like Bo'Rai Chi.
