I have two things:

I REALLY doubt eihter Stryker or Sheeva will return on MK7. Mainly because one is REALLY hated, and the other one is pretty much dead.
Rain and Reiko MIGHT still return. Heck, for all we know, both are MIA (one not reporting after launching a suicidal attack against Shao Kahn (if he died, UMK3's events will have a lot more importance) and the other one not being seen after the events of MK4G).

I think Stryker and Sheeva will be given one last chance, because they never got a chance to develop their characters. They could be better if given the chance. Also, about the highlighted section of your quote. It doesn't matter if it would make UMK3's events more meaninful, because storyline wise, UMK3 never happened. MK Trilogy happened instead. Everything in UMK3 is null.

To kill_the_wookie:
Sareena was one of Quan Chi's demon servants sent to kill Sub-Zero in MK:Mythologies. There were three female demons; Sareena, Kia, and Jataaka. They were all killed by Sub-Zero except for Sareena, who, according to stroyline, he let live. She helped him kill Quan Chi. She then pleaded with Sub-Zero to bring her to Earthrealm with him, but then Shinnok killed her.
In the videogame you had a choice to let her live or die. When you faught her, if you did a fatality, she was dead. But if you let her live, she'd come later and help you kill Quan Chi.
She made a second appearance in MK:Tournamen Edition for the GBA. She was supposed to appear in either MK:D or MK:DA, but they decided not to for whatever reason. You can unlock her Render in the Krypt in either MK:DA or MK:D.
Now about her race of demons. There are three known Demons, all female: Sareena, Kia, Jataaka, and Ashrah. They are citizens of Netherrealm who can mask their appearances with human forms. When Shinnok killed Sareena, she was sent back to the 5th plane of the Netherrealm, and then she lost her human appearance. Then before MK:Tourney Ed., she found an abandoned portal to Outworld. She could feed of the energies coming from the portal, and she reained her human appearance. What happened to her is now unknown.
The opposite of these demons are Oni, who can't mask their appearances. The only exception of this so far or Quan Chi, who was an Oni until he learned Sorcery. He then used Sorcery to give himself a human-like appearance.

dudes awesome idea what if they remastered all characters from all mk games and popped um in there. that'd make fer one hell of a fighting game. like sektor vs. hotaru.
and you know what i'd love it if they remastered jackie and kage from virtua fighter into MK
