What are you on about? Shoalin Monks has the amount of playable characters that Ed Boon wanted in it.
Not much he could do because he was making it from MK1 and MK2 and in those games there was like just 15 different characters, which they have used

Ermac

But now with the sequel to it leading up to MK3 they will have..

included in the game aswell
lot more people could be able to use from the start 
The story was also about the 2 monks, lol.

Correction: People claimed to have seen him as an error. It has since been confirmed to have been made up and unreal. MKII had a cryptic message along the lines of "Ermac doesn't Exist."
P.S. For those who don't know, Ermac is a contraction of Error Macro.

technially Ermac was around, the message was placed in MK2 to let fans know he does not exist as an actual character, because he had a large fan base already midway decided to put him in MK3

Well at least we got to do a fatality on Ermac unlike Mileena. Fooey!
I dont know why everybody moans about MKSM not having a lot of characters to play as. Its an action/adventure game that takes at least 6-8 hours to beat. Its not like a regular MK arcade mose that takes 20 minutes or so to beat it with one character. Besides the characters you could play as had a bunch of fatalities so no complaining.
