Why do new users bump old topics?
Do they intentionally go back a dozen pages and bump old topics because the new ones are boring to them? Is it because they seek attention, and they see the attention other new users are getting from bumping old topics? Are they jerks who only get pleasure from agitating the online community? Do they simply not see that there are time stamps with each post?
I remember when I first joined, I pretty much stayed on one topic, and slowly moved my way out of it. I don't know how it was for others, but now that the boards are pretty slow, it makes sense that the new users might be all over the place. I never had any reason or desire to bump old topics, and I don't see why anyone would - new or old.

Interesting... I doubt you'll get any real answers though.

Hard to say. I can't really give an exact answer. Surely all of them have been correct at some point.

Personally I don't see anything wrong with newcomers bumping old topic if it's still valid for discussion. I don't see why a lot of people get mad at that, it's like there's no way out - they get mad at new users creating new topics that have already been discussed, or if they found their desired discussion topic that happens to be old and bump that, they get mad at that too.
As far as the choices, they could all be right, but as far as bumping old topics - I'd say just let them.

I agree with DEATHGRIND 100%. Sometimes you can tell that a certain user constantly bumps old topics just saying one word, even after being flamed for it. But, other times its just a new user looking for their topic of interest.

Whenever I bump an old topic, it's either because the other topics are a little boring, or I get so caught up in the topic that I forget it's old and I post a reply.
I say it's absolutely fine unless they do it for the sole purpose of being an assclown.

It's got to be because they don't notice the last post date on them. When I first came to the boards, I barely noticed them. How many new people would?

Being the newest user yet to respond to the question, I need to ask you a question. What would tempt new users to go a page or two back to find a new topic of discussion?

Simple: They don't know the answer or don't like the topics from the first page and don't realize that there are such things as too old topics so they randomly chose a boards that sounds interesting to them until they start to get crossed out. Until they are notified not to BUMP old topics by someone, they don't know any better. How are the new people able to know whgat to do? Some boards allow old topics to be brang back.

They seek attention. I mean, come on, I've seen people BUMPing a months old topic with a simple "Yes, that's true" with worse grammar and spelling.

Depends on the situation. A person bumping an old post simply to be obnoxious will be taken care of. A person commenting with valid discussion on an old topic is fine.
Oh, and sending "OMG, Don't bump old posts!!!!!11!!!!!" PMs to people will get you on my bad side. Let the mods handle it, if it's a problem, please.

Well in my opinion, if a topic is an interesting one and someone has a worthwhile opinion or fact to discuss then why not renew an old topic by bumping it. It may even refresh some of our old ideas to continue on with the discussion.

So basically, there are all different kind of reasons. Take whaleblood for example: He did it on purpose to make people mad at him and get laughs. He's wierd like that.
