I think its done so people can increase their post count. But thats just me.

I see it more as comunity building I My self don't use it to get post count up nor do I think most the users that post in them do. and there not out of control like they where a few mounths back

i agree with leafsfan2k6 cause now it's "rate the user's **** above you" and kreate a character and kreate a fatality and create a story! just boring and useless threads to increase their post account! sheyla should create like a ranking for every user like this:
kinds of posters:
n00b
spammer
can't stop posting
smart/helpful
neutral
and tons of people would go to spammer and can't stop posting!

Not all of the sigs are the same. A fair number of people here change theirs periodically.

I personally find them irritating. It seems so overdone. Everyone just rates each other's profiles/sigs over and over and over again. It becomes an exercise in stroking each other's...egos.

Nah, even if most of the ratings are all 10's just so everyone can be nice its good for everyone to look at other peoples sigs and profiles, helps people get to know people a little bit.
But my word is dirt because I'm not critical enough to think any privileges should be taken away from the users because I don't really see the harm in using those threads to raise your post counts. I don't go to those threads (well to be fair I've done "rate my profile" about 2-3 times) and I don't see much harm in...well anything in this forum either being taken advantage of or not. As long as it doesn't hurt someone mentally/physically I really don't care...but thats just me.

I feel the same as Echo. The same 5 or so people rate eachother over and over and usually chat about something off-topic at the same time. There's no meaningful discussion happening. There's no "community building" happening either.
