why is advertising baned on this site when loads of people put it in there sig and on there profile? Why bother ban it then lol

You are only allowed to advertise if you put it in your signature. Posting in a thread that everyone should come to your board, however, is not allowed for obvious reasons.

Exactly.
and There is also an MK Fan sites thread for everybody to "Advertise" their sites in.I don't see why people still create seperate threads.

Alot of people look towards the posts than in a user\\\'s profile or signature. Having sites in your post would make it noticeable, but putting it in your profile or signature makes it less noticeable, which is what Midway wants. Midway atleast gives you that much of a credibility for advertising.

an advert in your sig, like mine, is fine. the rule is there to stop people from spamming the boards. midway realises that it works both ways tho- allowing people to put links in there sig makes it more likely for others to put midway in their sig on other sites (and therefore will bring in users).
thats my guess anyway....

1) Yes, it ends up spamming the boards. A link in a signature doesn't do that.
2) Every alternate forum advertised has the potential to reduce the number of posters here.
Good business sense dictates that we try to keep that to a manageable level - but at the same time, banning it completely would not be good customer service. Midway is grateful to the fan sites for liking their games so much, and doesn't want to discourage them from posting good things about the games, but needs to strike a balance between showing appreciation and keeping the forums viable. Allowing links in the sticky thread and in signatures has been the best way to acheive that balance.
Admining a forum is rarely black-and-white, but is instead about balancing the needs of the users with the needs of the company. There's rarely a perfect answer, so we revisit the rules and interpretations often, to see how the community has changed, and how to guide it into the tone we want.
