Question about the boards
|
First off - what forum software is this? Don't think I've seen it before. Just a curiousity one there.
Second - Midway is the publisher of one of the best (imo of course) xbox games to date in Unreal Championship 2. Why no forum for it here? Plus you're publishing the biggest sci-fi PC title this year (or early next) in UT2007 - yet no forum for people to get excited in and speculate to death...and more important no place for Epic to watch for possible suggestions and the like.
Epic doesn't have their own boards, since they have always been housed by their publishers (well I don't want to go back to the Megaboard history, but suffice to say they've been over at Atari for UT2003/4, and Atari brought the original boards from before as well).
Anyways, just wondering. There's an awful lot of boards for Mortal Kombat, and the organization could be better/cleaner imo, but it's not that big of a deal. Midway is of course known for MK, but being Epic's publisher is going to change a lot of that reputation methinks.

Although I have no official affliation with Midway I can answer your questions to a certain extent.
First off Midway is licensing the technology that IGN powers their board forums with. Same thing.
And the other answer to your question : Publishing and creating are 2 different things. Its more approrpriate to host a board where the game was created , then to host a board where the game was published on. More knowledgeable users plus the game creators usually frequent their own boards and answer questions on the spot.
Midway focuses more on games it creates rather then games it publishes.

RE: Question about the boards

Crazy - I've been playing UT games since their inception, and never knew about Epic's boards. lol
I used to read the Megaboard, adn then the GTF. When Atari took over and everyone went over to atari's boards, I went to tournament.com, where most of the GTFers went. I browse atari's boards now and again though. I'm somewhat surprised though that Epic doesn't have a board for 2k7 - there's so much hype around that game lol.
Anyways, thanks for the info.

Epic's forums have only been up about a year and a half. A friend of mine administrates them, and yes..they do use the same forum software as here.
Edit: I'm told that Epic does have plans for the 2k7 forums, but they're not ready to open them up yet.

RE: Question about the boards

Everyone has seen forums with 50 boards and 2 posts on each board. We don't want that - we will open new forums as our traffic suggests it can support, and as Midway directs. Posting begets posting.
There isn't enough traffic/interest to justify boards for older games, so look for forums for some of the newer games coming out. The older ones, and the ones with a smaller following, likely won't get them.
