Not sure if this has been brought up, but I think there is a typo on D2D's site...they say:
Stranglehold Download Minimum System Requirements (Subject to Change)
* Windows XP SP2, Windows Vista
* Intel Pentium 4 1.5GHz or AMD Athlon XP 1500
* 256 MB RAM
* 15.0 GB free hard disk space (Stranglehold requires 50GB of free hard disk space during the installation process but, once installed, the setup files can be removed or stored elsewhere. If installing to a secondary drive, your system's primary drive requires 20GB of free hard disk space during the installation process.)
* DirectX 9.0b compatible graphics card with 64 MB VRAM (see below for complete list)
* DirectX 9.0b compatible sound card
* DirectX 9.0c (included)
* Broadband Internet connection required for online play
50gb?! If thats the case...it won't fit ;_;
the notice for 50gb is mentioned like, three times on their page for the game... help?

This is not a typo. The game requires that you have 50 GB of space free on top of the required space of 15 GB. Once you have the game installed you can delete the installation files (4 files) to free up some space.
If you are installing this game onto another external drive, your original C:\ drive will still require 20 GB of space in order for the installation to complete.

Those space requirements may be correct, but the minimum system requirements are certainly not. Attempting to play the game on the kind of system outlined in the minimums will result in much frustration.
There is absolutely no way that Stranglehold will work with 256MB of RAM. 1GB would probably be pushing it as running the game can result in the Windows memory commit charge going well over the 1GB mark, even on a clean system. I'm more than a bit ify on that 1.5Ghz Pentium 4 CPU requirement as well. I've run the game on a Pentium 4 3.0Ghz and the performance is pretty good, but certainly nothing I'd call spectacular. Halving CPU performance would probably result in framerates around the low teens and single digits.
Finally, the video card also seems wrong. If I'm not mistaken, the game requires Shader Model 3.0 to operate. Off the top of my head, I can't think of one video card with 64MB of onboard memory that supports Shader 3.0. I'd also be very suprised if 64MB is enough onboard RAM in and of itself to run the game.
While there are no published minimum system requirements on the retail box, the recommended specs include an AMD dual-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 15GB of hard drive space, and an x1300 or 7800 video card. Cinder (a moderator here) has posted minimum system requirements that can be found on this forum. In either case, they are both well above and beyond what D2D states as being the required minimums.
ADDED: It appears that the minimum system requirements stated in the OP have been removed from the Direct2Drive website with the following listed in its place:
