i have the same problem. i see the config screen, then the screen goes black, then it shows the desktop, then black, desktop, black, ... and so on.
system:
E6600 2.4ghz
8800gts 640mb latest official drivers
2gb ram
directx 9.0c
and is there a way to play windowed mode, granted it is possible to play the game at all once some dev shows up and tells us how to fix this? i like to kill the window in hanging cases like that.

Wohoo someone with exactly the same problem and he has got 2GB ram. But now i have got the Rendering bullsh+++
That black window problem is solved you just have to close every programm in the bar down there msn Xfire or what ever you got. All the Chat programms or maybe Steam duno. Then you maybe got the same as me with the Rendering thread exception bla bla bla

Which Demo do you have ? UK or US... the black screen prob i got with the US Demo and with the UK but with the UK the trick worked. I only need help for that Rendering thread exception.

I have the same problem: Rendering thread exception .When the game starts, after 3-4 seconds it carashes with the same error. (sorry for my bad english, im hungaryan)
system: Intel Pentium Dual Core 3,2
2Gb ram
7900 GTX
I have the latest Nividia drivers, and the latest direc x update. Then what Midway?????? I see many of the users have the same problems. So please do something, because this sux!!! Someone of you guys colud come here and say what the..... sholud we do??

Hello guys, I just registered to share some more info.
I had the same problem on my pc with the demo: monitor turning off and pc restarting after I start doing something in the game(if I don't move the game runs well). I had the chance to try the demo on a better computer, but with older video drivers and it didn't crash.
Specs of PC 1 where the game crashed:
Athlon 3200+ 2ghz
1gb RAM
Nvidia 6600gt
Specs of PC 2 where the game didn't crash:
Intel Core 2 1.86ghz
2gb RAM
Nvidia 7300gt
At this point I was sure the problem is the ram(1gb not being enough), but I see now people with 2gb have the problem as well! It's becoming a mystery.

I get to the actual game section but i also only have a blank screen. I can see the HUD icons but everything else is black.
Ive tried different drivers to no avail.
My specs -
Core2Duo e6600
4GB DDR2 PC6400
8800GTX 768MB
I got the demo from fileplanet, not sure what version it is as in US/UK.
Any solutions yet?

Hi folks, I got the same shit...rendering thread error, memory error msg, black screen - after controls screen is appear.
Where are F**king developers ??
Did they see this thread or other similar ??
Where is decision of this f**king problem from them ?
On 99% computers this f**cking demo doesn`t work.
And they yet want to sell this game ???

Midway is acting so amateurish, i dont know how they release a demo like this , and knowing that it wont work on the majority of the pc´s they didnt even release a system requirements or answer to our questions...
i want someone to tell us whats happening , and if the retail version will be the same or if they are working on a patch ( to the demo first, i will not buy a game without knowing if it works...) please , answeeer usss

Guys! Here is tehe solution: Download this beta driver: http://www.nzone.com/object/nzone_downloads_rel70betadriver.html With this driver, the demo works with no problem and ther arent crashes. (Sorry for my bad english, but im not american)

if the beta driver is the one nvidia released for the bioshock demo is not working for me, i have that driver installed since the day it was released ...

Sorry! I wasn't right. The demo runs a littlebit longer with the beta driver, but than it makes the same crash. I think its time, that the guys from midway do smoething.This is a very bad marketing for the game!
edit: (This isnt the bioshcok beta driver! This was relased in september 10/2007, but it dosent woks eather)

Well, not quite true, this new 5 day old driver still addresses some Bioshock problems, says so in the changed section. Maybe I could run it with the HQ shaders now.
Also it doesn't make a difference for me, crashes at the same time, right after the first cutsequence... BSOD...
