Well, just played through the demo (on easy) just to get an impression of it.
Here are my impressions (your experience may vary):

The good:
1. Kill, kill, kill. All action, all the time. I love it.
2. Graphix: They are good (not great), but that doesnt really matter to me, as gameplay makes the game more than graffix do.
3. Plenty of ammo everywhere (on easy anyway).
4. Game runs very smoothly. No hitches or glitches (for me anyway).
5. Nice 'new' features. IE: Teq. action, barrage, etc.

the bad:
1. Console save game checkpoints. Come on, this is a pc, give us what we are used to!
2. Mouse controlls. No matter what I set the x and y axis to (in options menu), the mouse was WAY too fast for accurate shooting. We need a mouse sensitivity feature.
3. Sliding. This is a cool feature, but it is WAY overdone IMO. Have a few surfaces you can slide on, not every surface you encounter! This actually detracted from the game for me.
4. Cut scenes. Do we really need that many cut scenes? Over the top on this aspect for me.
5. It is definitely a console port, and plays like one. (think of the little interactive cut scenes, like killing all 4 people, 1 after the other in a cut scene-esque scenario. I am a pc gamer, and know how to aim, and can take out 4 guys by myself). But, this can be said about 99% of the ports out there.

Overall, this is not a bad game for people who like lots of action in a game. Some 'kinda' new ideas, and definitely fun play.

I will not purchase the game though unless the retail version has mappable keys and more mouse sensitivity options. If those 2 requirements are met, I will definityly be getting the game.

Pros:

*My computer isn't a beast of a machine, and with that said, the demo runs surprisingly smooth. Midway's promise of having this run on lesser machines proved to be more than a myth.

*Action, action, action. This is what Stranglehold promised and this is what Stranglehold delivers.

*Loving the destructible environments, rag-doll physics (they always promise a good time), Tequila Bombs/Time (especially the Precision Aim), so on and so forth.

*Couple the physics and the destructible environments together and you have yourself an action lovers bullet-riddled fantasies come true. So many cool things to see and do, and so little time in which to do them.

Cons:

*I do agree with the first poster; way too many cut scenes here. This game, I feel, is all about the action, not the story, and shoving that many cut scenes into it isn't really necessary.

*The demo HAS crashed on me once so far, which I'm hoping isn't a sign of things to come with the full version. Other than that, I haven't had any problems.

In all honesty, Stranglehold is turning out to be everything I hoped it would, and could, be. It's a no-brainer action title and with that said, it plays just like one. It's not rocket science and I never expected it to be. I'll definitely be picking this up come release time.

5 / 10 for this demo.

The graphics are good but rest is rubbish. They should tweak this game alot more for PC or just leave it only for consoles cuz currently it's a insult to action games on PC.

TBH i was really shocked when i saw that the demo was locked at 1280x720. Thank GOD for that command lines and after playing the demo,i needed to register to say how it was.

At 1920x1440 the game was running great with almost no slowdowns (the minimum framerate was 40). There are some low-res textures and the shadows are a bit blocky but overall the graphics are very good. The destructible environment is amazing and i enjoyed blowing and shooting stuff.

As someone said, it's Max Payne in steroids. The controls are great and i'm sure that the shoot sequences (when you are leaning and shooting the enemies) will be tougher in the next levels with more and speedier incoming bullets. Great job Midway, it looks and plays great happy

I won't buy the full product, because I don't know how I can change the graphic settings / details and controls. Yes I know, that I can change the res with the command line options in the demo, but a demo should represent the full game (Quake Wars is great example!) and should have all kind of menu options, it should SAVE that I changed the mouse inverse settings and so on.

By the way: what took Midway so long for that demo? It looks like it was done in 2 days without much love to detail.

I think the retail version will be better, in things like graphicoptions and so on....but i liked teh demo, action all around :P...the only thing i dont like is the fact, that when you´re in tequila time, everything gets so massive red, i mean, the lighteffects are very good ( the graphic isn´t so bad i think ?!?) but, i want to see my enemies hit the ground grin y´all know what i mean???
i pre-ordered this game, and i will not regret it...

I'm a harcore PC gamer but unlike many of you I don't play with zqsd or awsd. I play with the 4 arrows and that makes this demo unplayable for me, since you can't change the controls. But that asside, it's a very good game. 2 days ago I bought the 360 version and I'm getting the PC version as well. This game is like a collectors item to me happy

Hi! I'm new here with a big bad problem!

I have downloaded and installed Stranglehold demo version (StrangleholdDemo_US.exe ), after installation I have started the application, the application has frozen during loading. I don’t know what the cause might be but in the file called Engine.log located in C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\Midway\Stranglehold\ I get an error message:

9/24/2007 15:25:17 Version: 3.1.33.3
9/24/2007 15:25:17 Loading Engine vars ...
9/24/2007 15:25:17 Engine vars loaded!

9/24/2007 15:25:23 ERROR: Init web method connection failed: -3

My System has these specs:
- over 20GB free space on C (C unit is a Sata drive )
- OS Name Microsoft Windows XP Professional, SP 2
- MB System Model D975XBX2
- Processor Intel Core2Duo 6420
- 2GB memory RAM
- Video Card Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT 256 DDR2

and I got no problems so far.
Thank you!

Stranglehold for the PC uses in-game advertising. According to this link...

http://www.doublefusion.com/

... it looks like DoubleFusion is the provider Midway has chosen. I find it incredible if the game is bombing out just because it can't reach the ad server. When I get home, I'll try pulling the internet connections out of my systems and seeing if Stranglehold will load up on either of them.

The lack of mouse sensitivity ruined the demo for me. As stated, it was way too fast even setting my G5 mouse at lowest.

This makes me leary about getting the retail version, I do not want to play it that way. I'm going to have to hear from someone verifiying that the sensitivity can be turned way down before I spend any money.

Is the PC demo the same one that's on Playstation Network? Or is it a different area?
