I'm going to list some of the ps3 releases that are coming out in September, and I'm wondering if you think Stranglehold can compete with these, or if they will drain midways profit.
Colin McRae: DiRT This game is suppose to have EXCELLENT visuals and great physics. I believe its running at 60 frames per second, which means it should run very smoothly.
Fatal Inertia
FIFA 08
Heavenly Sword Heavenly Sword looks like it could be one of the most impressive new series for the ps3 this year. The game play is extremely similar to God of war (god of war is known by many as the ps2's greatest game) but it also has AMAZING visuals and it really is a ton of fun (I have a short but fun demo for it) this game is also ps3 exclusive, and I know a lot of gamers like picking up exclusives for there home teams console before mutli-platform games.
Lair Lair looks amazing. Its another ps3 exclusive and its very anticipated. The title just plain looks fantastic.
SingStar Singstar is simply the greatest selling karaoke game of all time. Its another ps3 exclusive and the music videos you can make with it are simply amazing, you can download songs online for it too. This game is amazingly popular in europe.
TimeShift Meh
I love Midway and everything but well...I really have to admit that Lair>Stranglehold Heavenly Sword>Stranglehold O and I'm sure Singstar is much more anticipated then Stranglehold sadly. What do you guys think?

None of the games you list deliver shooting at all (well, lets forget Timeshift). Plus Lair has been getting pretty lukewarm reception from many who have tried it, and while Heavenly Sword has the looks it doesn't seem to come close to the greatness of God of War.
Both Lair and HS might turn out good games, but I doubt they'll be so popular that people all but forget about Stranglehold.
Things might be different on the 360 however with AAA-titles like Bioshock and Halo 3 coming soon. And of course Bioshock will be released on PC as well.
But let's hope Stranglehold manages to stand out and sell well, I'm sure it deserves it.

Stranglehold is going to be great and I'm going to buy it, but it's going to have a lot of competition(halo 3, metroid prime 3, and everything you listed). This makes me think it won't do too well in sales.

I've heard great reception from Lair. And Heavenly sword I have to tell you plays just like God of war, I own GOW (played it today) and the fighting system is nearly identical. Heavenly Sword is suppose to also have an amazing story and the visuals really are mind blowing. I really wouldn't be surprised if people for a good part forgot about Stranglehold for Lair and Heavenly Sword, they both have a much larger amount of anticipation. I don't think it really matters if the games are shooters are not, because it really just matters where people place there dollars.
When are Halo 3 and bioshock coming out? all of the titles I listed are coming out in the same month as Stranglehold.

Bioshock comes out soon, but I don't know the exact date. Halo 3 comes out September 25th.

As much as I hate halo (I've played it, I honestly find it really boring) it doesn't matter because Halo has a huge fan base, and no matter how crappy it is, it will sell very well.

Of the above PS3 games listed, the only ones I would even consider getting would be Lair and Heavanly Sword, and that would only be AFTER I had already bought Stranglehold.
But I have a 360, so the main competition for Stranglehold on there seems to be Bioshock and Halo 3, as mentioned above. But even so, I would still get Stranglehold before either of those.
When Max Payne came out, it defined a genre. We are now seeing the true evolution of that genre.
