I thought all PS3 games were region free (excluding the collectors ed of Stranglehold as it contains the movie)??

I thought that was one thing that Sony promised with the PS3 :/

My thoughts exactly. I think there must be some misunderstanding here plain

Sorry to ask and maybe i am a bit unpolite but why the hell are you doing this?

1. Why is the XBOX version region free and the PS3 not? Do you really want to flop the PS3 version so badly?

2. So in my case and some of my friends who have a japanese PS3 are now getting totally screwed? Sorry this is unacceptable. I can understand this because of the Movie which is a pitty but why gets the Normal version region locked too?

3. Which version must i buy to play the game with a japanese PS3

I hope some one will answer my question

Region coding is used to shaft people out of games. This theory is based on the fact that I live in Australia under the PAL system tongue

I think region coding is a joke. All games (and movies) should be region free. At least HD DVD is taking this approach. It sucks missing out on alot of games and movies here in Australia, or having to wait 6-12 months later for them cry

As far as I know, the Blu Ray coding is slightly different to that of DVD. The USA region coding is combined with that of Japan, in that they are now both Region 1, whilst Australia and the UK both fall under Region 2.

ooh, you live in Australia? I feel sorry for you, cuz Australia is known as an Anti-games dictature... Ive heard many games are disallowed there... Wow, they dont undestand that violence comes from people and not from computer games. I live in Israel where a 12 years kid can buy a 18+ rated game cool

ATM due to the lack of an R Rating, alot of games either get edited or get banned out right. We have been lucky in so far as we got GTA SA uncut and Saints Row fine. But we have has games banned mearly because it outlined you using graffiti.

Hopefully the R Rating can finally come about so we don't have to worry about future games being cut (like GTA 3 and Vice City was) or banned.

We still have the PAL issues though where we miss out on great games like Xenosaga Ep 1 and 3, or the fact that we have to wait like 8 months for a game only to find the game has been butchered with black bars on the top and bottom of the screen and the gameplay being slower (from converting the game from NTSC to PAL. Some such games were Devil May Cry 1 and Final Fantasy 10).

At least with region free games we can import them and not have to worry about censorship or crappy poor conversions.

North America, Central America, South America, Japan, North Korea, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Southeast Asia.

Bravo echo applause finally someone else besides Cinder is being cited for game info. Ps3fanboy.com is linking to this thread as proof that the ps3 version of Stranglehold is region locked.

The plot thickens so speak.

I contacted videogamesplus.ca about this, who in turn contacted Midway.

Videogamesplus posted:
Hello,

Just to let you know I have contacted Midway support myself and this is the response I received :

"Thank you for contacting Midway Tech/Customer Support. Please see
below for details about your inquiry to Midway.

Both PS3 versions will be region free. The 360 version has not been
decided upon as yet, however the 360 collectors edition will include the
movie Hard Boiled on DVD. This DVD may be region locked."

Thanks,

Sidney

I don't know what to believe anymore!

Why don't Midway provide one consistent message? The left hand doesn't seem to know what the right hand does! So frustrating!

i think there is some serious communication problems within midway.

anyway, to clarify, all ps3 games are region free. when ps3 games are completed, they are sent to sony for manufacturing. During this stage, it is sony that applies regions to the game, which the developers have no say in.
Sony has said that all ps3 games past, present, and future will all be region free. end of story.

The region coding is probably referring to the actual bluray movie disk that will come with the game.
