Help with Spikes on Ceiling after Fan Room

Hi.
I am completely stuck on the room in the soul tombs where it cuts to a scene where there are spikes on the ceiling. The room is after the one where you chuck the single tarkata up into the fan. I have read a few walk through guides and thrown 100's of Tarkatas into the spikes but nothing happens at all??? Have I missed something? This problem is annoying to me.
This is xbox version

I don't remember such a room, but i could be because i have the PS2 version. Is it near the beggening?(I haven't played in awhile, LOL  )

You have to enter the next room and throw a tarkatan on the spiked thing so the platform lowers. Then go up it, around the balcony and into the next door. jump into the platform on the fan and uppercut enemies into the fan until the blades break and stop. walk on the blade to the other side and stand on the square.
