Originally he was planned to come back as protector of Earth, hence Raiden blowing himself up in the Deception opening sequence. But the Mortal Kombat team thought this would annoy the fans so they brought Raiden back as "dark Raiden".

Really?  Now that's interesting! Does that then mean that if there had been no Dark Raiden, we wouldn't have the reappearance of Liu Kang as well? And not only that, but he also would not have been revived as undead?  You know what, I wish they would have done that. Just think, they may have not had Armageddon in its eventual incarnation if this had been. I'm a believer in if you think a character should be killed off, then once you kill him move on and let the story continue around him. You killed the character off for a reason! The one thing I did like was that Liu did come back in a different form, but it's just going to be annoying and disappointing if he's going to go back to normal Liu - albeit next gen Kang. What do you others think about that?

I didn't want Liu Kang to be killed off in the first place. I loved the ides of the "main hero" character. But since they did, I wish they had let him stay dead. Just like Raiden, they should never have killed him. But since he died, they shouldn't have created the abomination that is "dark Raiden". They should have stayed dead. Fujin should have had his time to shine etc.
