mod edit: moved from MK vs DCU to MK Armageddon

This may be off topic... But Armageddon featured everyone from all MK games, including ones that were dead. And they all were revamped and alive... But Why was Lui-Kang dead? And hand-cuffed?... It makes no sense... Is it because he was affiliated with the Wu-Tang Clan?

I know that dudes. But like Johny Cage was capped off waaaaaaaaaay before Lui-Kang, and he looks like he was doing well. Even Frost, she was killed. And she looked like she walked outa a 7-11. Why leave Lui-Kang dead?

when Shang killed Kang he seperated his soul from his body when he consumed his spirit while Liu's body was recovered by the Shaolin and buried in a tomb in the shaolin temples.
After the events of DA, when Raiden attempted to kill the Dragon king in that huge blast, he ended up only killing himself and shang tsung. Since Shang died, Liu's spirit was able to escape and so he roamed outworld.
Raiden's spirit recombined in earthrealm but he was changed into the dark raiden we know now. for his first order of business, he retreived a pair of artifacts (the chains) created by an ancient sect of necromancers called the Hounan and revived Liu's dead body. He attached the chains to Liu's body and used them to control the animated corpse.
that is why Liu still looks dead. It isn't really him but only his body.

Probably just as a random example now that I think of it. At the same time though, I have a hard time picturing an MK warrior at a 7-11.
