I've used the technique before when trying to get a fine finish on perspects(sp) that i've been sanding. Most toothpaste contains small grains of randomness (not sure what they are but they're there). Squeeze some toothpaste onto a surface to be fine sanded and then rub it against a clean plain piece of paper (preferably resting on a flat clean surface).
