Realms aren't really different dimensions, but more like different planes of existence. If they were different dimensions, there would be a Shao Kahn or a Liu Kang in each realm, except the Netherealm, Heaven, and the Void. The only thing I can compare them two are the realms of Norse Mythology. Asgard, Midgard, Niflheim, Jotunheim, and Muspell were on different levels of existence, but were still connected in a few ways (the Bifrost and Yggasdril are synonymous with portals and the Nexus).

I am using the word "dimension" so that you guys understand easily the concept but if you notice I also used the expression "different planes of existence" in my first post.
MaxDevaster posted: From what I understand the realms are different worlds that exist in a same planet but each one of them in a different dimension. So, all the realms in MK are different planes of existence on the planet Earth. The fact that we call our realm the Earthrealm doesn't mean that this realm is the only one on planet Earth and the other realms are from another planets. Earthrealm is the realm of the humans on planet Earth but paralel to that dimension (which means still on planet Earth) there's the other realms. That's why Netherealm is actually the hell of the Earthrealm. The realms are all connected because they exist in the same planet but in different dimensions.
Anyway, the expression "from other dimension" doesn't always mean that a certain thing or person is from a different parallel reality. In a parallel reality to our reality everything that exist in our reality exist there too but in a different version, somehow changed by a different course of the destiny. A good exemple of that is the movie "The One" where a different version of Jet Li's character exists in every parallel universe to ours. In one world George W. Bush wins the elections for president of the U.S. in the other world is Al Gore who wins it but they exist in both realities.
But like I said before not always a different dimension means that. For example when you got a "monster coming from another dimension" that means that he came from a different plane of existence which means that his world is completely different from ours. In his world there's no version of you what so ever. In MK you got this realms that are from different planes of existence and each one of them is in a parallel dimension to ours. The reason why this realms are all connected to Earthrealm is because in their dimensions they exist in a planet located at the same spot that planet Earth is in our universe/dimension. That's why I say that those realms are in parallel planes of existence to our Earthrealm.

Never thought of it that way. Like Legacy of Kain's Spectral Realm and the Material realm.. It's the same place, just different planes.

But this dimension thing makes sense. When you play MK3 in the arena "Rooftop" or in "Street", you'll be able to see the fortress of Shao Kahn. What if it came to Earthrealm from Outworld because the Shao Kahn's magics started to effect?
I first thought this realm thing was like in Star Gåte. But hey, Midway haven't confirmed this, so who knows if it's in Mortal Kombat like it is in Star Gåte. Although the dimension thing would be better.
By the way, did you know that the letter "Å" from Star Gåte is a letter in Finnish and Swedish alphapets? It is pronounced like letter "O".

So, does that mean it should actually be pronounced Star Goat?

I guess they put that letter there just for decorating assuming that people don't know that letter. Well, yes, you actually should say it Star Goat if said properly. I personally pronounce it "Star Gootte" when I notice the letter Å.
