The rookie going out is part of the season. It happens to everyone.
There's no answer to this. Just keep playing as normal with the rest of the team you have left. You get the rookie back after week 5, I believe.

No - you can only change settings for quick-play games. There's only one difficulty setting for campaign mode.

Yes you can avoid losing your rookie. I've done it many times and I learned how to do it on this board like a year ago.Once the first qtr is over you have to punt everytime you get the ball. You will get a loss but keep your rookie and he still gets a boost whenever week it is that he would be coming back from the injury!

The Nightmare are balanced-unlike a lot of the teams you have been playing in Division 1. You have to keep an eye out for that running back. Run some qb-spy in a balanced defense on first and second downs, and look for the run first. If they start getting some good running gains against you, they will stick with it, so switch to some CRUSH defensive sets on first downs if this happens. Use Crush defensive sets if they are in running situations like 3rd and 7 or something. Any short-yardage situation like 4th and 1 or 3rd and 1-you should use field goal block (it sounds crazy but you'll see its not).
Your problem is likely that you don't understand the concept of tackling wide recievers before they catch the ball. I remember #80 blew me up the first 20 times I lost to NY in the championship game.
So, just look for the run first, and then tackle (X or square button-PS2) the wide recievers once the ball is in the air. This is the simplest defensive strategy to take in order to simply win (not to win with style, which is what the pros try to do).
Offensively, it is soooooo easy to score on every single play. Well, if you have a full boost meter that is. Try and keep that full if the majority of your problems are on the offensive side. Keeping your meter full is kind of a complex thing to do so I'll try and keep your gameplan simple for now (for future reference, keeping your meter full is the key to getting more money and having a really good time with this game). Anyways, you should be able to score on every play when you have at least half of your meter full with energy. You get energy on every decent kickoff return where you don't fumble, so you should almost always have energy on offense.
All you need to do to score is to pass deep every play. Just use to plays like victory or hail mary, or any play where a reciever goes deep for that matter. Just 1. take your quarterback far away from the pressure using your turbo. 2. wait until the last second, or until your wide reciever is at least 40 yards downfield (whichever comes first) 3. chuck it up to him. 4. enter clash mode (L2) immediately after putting the ball in the air 5. juke your wide reciever around a little bit to shake the defensive backs (try to make a late break for the ball so you hit the catch button right when the ball is about chest high) 6. streak down the field in clash mode after making the catch(make sure you conserve turbo in clash mode if your on empty) 7. taunt if you feel brave enough 8. do a touchdown dance.
Its really that simple my friend. If you pass on every play (which i recommend)- the D-backs will play tighter, but you can almost always juke them out before the ball comes down (NY's corners are good, but not great like New Englands).
Hope this helps. Let me know if you want some advice on racking up clash icons and more money.

It's actually pretty easy to win that first game against the Nightmare AND keep your rookie.
You don't have to just punt, after all...you can kick field goals, too. So if you're up by enough at the end of the first (I was up by 14, as I recall) and you have a good defense, it's easy as pie. Just kick a field goal or two to cover the spread.

RE: HELP !!!!!

yes it's true, you don't have to lose your player to quintin sands cheap hit.
I played my div 1 #1 game and not only did I not lose my rookie to Quintin Sands dirty hit, but I was also able to make my wager spread of 21 points!!!
I found that if you beat them down quick, you can get them to fumble at least 2x in the first quarter. This coupled with 2 of your own TD's can give you a 30 point game before you start punting the rest of the game. And if you are lucky and can get them to fumble close to the goal, you can even kick a FG at least 2 times.
This depends heavily on you playing very tough defense and never allowing them within kicking range on the field. If they do get within kicking range, you better have a fast player on the field who can get to the kicker after the ball has been snapped.
