Lol, what if someone faked their age and got the job? tongue . No seriously, it's unlikely, but some people are BOUND to do that, and I know people who would steal an older friend's lisence or birth certificate, I also know people who would let them.

It's not as easy as that to fake being older. I can spot a teenager right off the bat, usually. And yes, in every batch of applications, there are always a few that try to claim they are older, but are rejected for being underage just because I can tell that they are.

Any 14 year old that says "but I'm really mature for my age!" is just being.. well... 14. wink I know. My son is that age. And believe me, no matter how mature you think you are, you .. aren't. No offense meant to the younger set, that's just pretty much how it is. wink Every 14 year old has said/thought that about themselves. It's actually part of the process of growing up. And every 25-30 year old has looked back on those times and laughed.

There are differences in the way the brain processes information at that age. Suddenly, they can comprehend SO much more than they could as a child, and so it seems like there couldn't possibly be that much more to learn, so they feel adult. It isn't until later, looking back, that kids realize that there was.

Anyway, sorry.. got off track. Brain development and the teenage years are a special interest of mine. happy

I actually noticed that about 40-60% of people between 13 and 16 years of age often made the error of spelling "you're" as "your", among other potential syntax/grammatical/vocabulary mistakes.

Cinder actually made that mistake a few days(/weeks) ago. People of all ages make mistakes.. But the younger generation do indeed make them more often, and when corrected become very defensive as well as offensive. I guess that is also one of the things that proves a person's maturity/immaturity.

Just a rather random question Sheyla, do you get paid to be an Admin? I'm sure you must, but just making sure.

Yes, I contract with another company, and Midway contracts with me through them for forum administration. So I don't work for Midway directly, and I get no benefits (insurance, etc), but I do get to work from home. wink

I also do independent contracting with other companies, as well. Thus far, I admin or co-admin 3 forum systems.

Sounds good, working at home would be ace.
Also do you actually like video games such as Mortal Kombat?

Working from home is great happy It lets me have some nice stuff while still setting my own schedule and being home with my kids. If I had to give up one or the other, I'd give up the job in a second in order to stay a full-time mom. But with this schedule, I don't have to! wink

I think there's a big difference between making the occasional typo and simply not caring how you come across in the written word. I'm seeing more and more adults that are taking the same attitude that it just doesn't matter, so I'm not convinced it's a "youth" thing, but more of a "culture" thing.

Makes no difference to me, really.. the more people that can't communicate well, the better my kids (who are homeschooled and do communicate well) will have it in the job market, when they get there. wink

On the internet you can be lazy if you want and you don't really need a formal approach to things. Everyone here want a chizzbirgir?

I'd agree *somewhat*, terrellsubby. For instance, if I'm in IM with my friends, I may not be so compulsive about capitalization.

However, when I'm representing a company in an official capacity, you can bet I take every care to do things properly, so I don't reflect badly on them - even if it's "just the internet".

It always sort of puzzles me when people PM me to basically ask for a "job" (as in a moderator application), and they don't bother to put their best foot forward and do the best job possible - especially because this is a job that depends entirely upon the written word. You'd think they'd be wanting to show they can communicate well and professionally - but more often than not, they don't, and so I pretty much disregard their entire application, after scanning through it and seeing "i" instead of "I", or "u" instead of "you". If they can't be bothered to put at least some effort into the application, I really can't be bothered to put in at least some effort reading it.

I guess I'm mean that way. tongue
