	I think that MK7 should change things up from the last few MK games. Don't get me wrong. MK:DA and MK:D had some good things going for them, but for several reasons, I believe that MK7 should chart a new path. First, MK7 will most likely make its debut on next gen systems in the fall of 06 (if what Ed Boon has said in the past about an MK game a year is correct). With a new set of systems should come a new direction for the series. MK:DA and MK:D had a lot of modes, but only a few had to do with enhancing the actual fighting game experience. With all that said, these are my ideas for MK7. Please feel free to post your own! 1) Window Dressing: The MK series tells a story better than any other fighting game, period. What better vehicle for telling this story than the beautiful graphics of the upcoming systems? There should be intro movies, grudge match (I'll get to that) movies and ending movies for every character. A powerful, but not cheesy narrator telling each characters story as well as good, solid voice actors fleshing out the many twists and turns of the plot. 2) Controls: I've heard others complain about the 1, 2, 3, 4 button scheme. Let me suggest this (for X box): X = Punch Y = Kick A = Escape/Reprisal* B& directions=Evade B+ left on D pad= flip backwards B+ up on D pad= side step left B+ down on D pad= sid step right R Trigger = Throw (character style specific throws) R+A = Joint lock R+X = Flip throw R+Y = Take down (not that all throws can also use the d-pad for even more throws. So a throw heavy character can have more than three throws. They could use toward, toward R+A etc) L Trigger = Stance switch D pad Away = Block An escape (away +A) would deflect physical attacks (everything but special moves) and auto escape so that neither side has an advantage and only minor blocking damage is done to the defender. This would only work on high and mid attacks. Low attacks must be blocked by pressing away on the D pad. Reprisals would increase fight speed. Instead of a traditional counter, where a punch is thrown by the attacker and turned into a throw or automatic hit by the defender, like in Dead or Alive, this would be a system of counters. For example. The attacker throws a high punch and the defender uses a reprisal (up/toward on the D pad and A). This makes the defender automatically deflect the high punch and come back with high punch or kick. The attacker has now become the defender, and they can use a reprisal to hit high (up/toward and A) medium (toward and A) or low (down/toward and A) or attempt to escape (away and A) or evade in any direction (B and up, B and down, B and left). A reprisal would deflect the attacker's punch or kick and cause the defender to attack with a high, mid or low punch or kick depending on which reprisal is used. An escape would simply deflect the punch or kick and allow the player to flip backwards out of the melee so that neither has lost any power but the blocking damage. Evades accomplish this, but at the risk of giving the attacker the upper hand if they're using high or mid attacks. The evader has the advantage if its a low attack or on that takes a long time to execute. Reprisals can go on indefinitely, but they increase in speed with each consecutive successful reprisal performed, making each reprisal harder to time than the last. Now the fight looks more like a martial arts movie, where moves are exchanged at a rapid pace. Obviously, this couldn't go on forever, but the basics are these: No escape or evade after the 5th reprisal, and due to exertion of energy, the hit that actually connects takes off more than if the reprisal had successfully been landed earlier. Even the fastest thumbs shouldn't be able to perform a reprisal after the 7th or 8th time. 3) Maximum damage: There needs to be a rock solid system in place to prevent BS. If a player has had more than 40 percent taken off of them in combo or a series of moves, both players should be knocked backwards to the ground (ala MK4). This will go a long way to cut down the cheese of the last game. 4 New Modes: MK:DA and MK:D had some good modes that made MK more of a complete game, but not necessarily a complete FIGHTING game. Sure, MK Chess is great and all, but why doesn't MK:D have a tag mode or a survival mode? Do you see what I'm saying here? Here are my suggestions for MK7 modes: Story Mode: This is where we have the cut scenes. Characters fight up a specific ladder based on their allegiances (so if Noob Saibot was in MK7, he wouldn't fight Smoke if they were allies). There would be a grudge match that I'd call it a vendetta match. This would be like Sub-Zero vs Noob or whatever characters are in the game that have unresolved storyline issues with certain other characters. I'd have an endurance match, followed by sub-boss, followed by the boss of the game. Probably about 10 matches in total. Versus: 1 on 1, 2 on 2 switch (The new character comes in when the old one is defeated, no tag), 3 on 3 switch, 4 on 4 switch Tag: 2 on 2 Tag, 3 on 3 tag (use white button and black button to tag in players on Xbox) Online: Online fighting like in MK:D Survival: Fight until you lose. Defeating each character unlocks health, points, krypt keys or items depending on who you're using, how many wins you have, who you're fighting, what buttons you used etc. Tournament: Up to 8 players with wireless controllers at home or up to 64 players online. Using a bracket style. Watch: Watch people fight online to learn from the best. Character Editor: Kind of like killer instinct. Not a mode, so much as the ability to change the colors of characters clothing at the select screen by selecting character, then hitting up or down to change colors and then confirming. 5) Create a Character: Some people will hate this, but I think that this idea screams MK. Lots of MK fans are very good at coming up with ideas for their own characters, well, I think that this should be the one and only minigame for MK7. You pick the race (human, demon, shokan, god, vampire, reptillian, oni etc). You pick the gender, eye color, hair style, physical build, tatooes, scars, etc. You start off with standard clothes, but you can change them to whatever you want and customize your character by unlocking: Move Sets: Judo, Hapkido etc. Everything from MK7 and then about 25 others. These can be found in survival mode, story mode etc. Plus more to be downloaded online later. Special moves: All special moves from MK7 plus about 100 more that can be found in the other regular modes. Plus more to be downloaded online later. Clothes: Everything from shinguards, pants, boots, chest plates, masks, belts, insignias, etc can be unlocked in survival mode, story mode, and every other mode in the game. They can come in the form of keys to the krypt or simply unlocked. Styles: Hair styles, tatooes, etc can also be unlocked in other modes. In total, about 1500 items should be available with which to customize your character. But that's not all! Create your own bio: A blank slate is provided that allows you to create your own characters bio of information. You choose the background, provide the list of Name, Age, birth place, style, weapon, allies and enemies. You get 5 stock templates to use for the background, and you can unlock 10 more in other modes. Create your own action frame: Kinda like killer instinct (again) where once the characters are selected, an action scene of the two characters shows up as the versus logo appears. You pick from the background (1 of about 10) and the movement of your character (1 of about 20). Some of which can be unlocked. Create your own ending: It won't be a movie sequence or animated, but you can choose templates with which to write scrolling text of what happens to your character. The best part is that all of this stuff will be accessible online by other players when you use that created character against someone else. 6) Fighting styles: My final idea (man this is a long post!) is to reduce the number of fighting styles from 3 to 2. One weapon style and one regular hand to hand style. Simplify the dial a combos and make them more character specific (so if Jax uses Judo he can throw a takedown and do a combo etc). Use uppercuts and roundhouses and pop up moves, but don't make the game juggle happy. A special move or two after a pop up is fine, but no combo should be more than four or five hits in total. Make the fighting styles more realistic to the character. A strong character should use an aggressive style etc. But also make the styles more unique to their roots. In other words, not every style should have standard punch punch kicks, but rather simpler combos that go with the style. If it's tae kwon do, they should be a certain style of punch that's different from wrestling. Plus their should be regular special moves that don't involve gravity defying, teleporting or projectiles that work with certian styles. Double jump kicks, back flip kicks, certain types of throws or locks, etc. Then of course, their should be the special moves. Scorpions spear, Rayden's lighting etc. I was just referring to moves unique to each characters fighting style. I have more ideas, but I'll stop here because I think I just wrote a book.

	Wow that's alot of reading I really like the Controlls idea dodging like that would be really cool also more custamizability to teh characters would be nice but it'd also be a pain if we ended up having to kill the same guy over and over again getting enuff gold to buy the next weapon for our fav character...

	Kill the same guy over and over again? I'm not sure what you mean. If you're talking about unlocking items in survival mode or tag mode or story mode etc, you wouldn't be fighting the same guy over and over again. In storymode you'd have your character on a set path where you progress until the end. In survival mode, the characters would be randomly generated so that you wouldn't be fighting the same guy over and over again repeatedly. Sure if you fight the same character 3 or 4 times and beat them that many times, it should mean that (given a game with about 25 characters) you've fought all of the others around that many times and you have anyone from 60 to 100 wins in a row. I'm not trying to make it too difficult to unlock stuff. I'm not saying it has to be something as specific as "beat Johnny Cage after your 74th victory in a row in survival mode using only the punch button and gaining a flawless victory" in order to get the "whip" weapon. Nothing THAT difficult. Sure, there should be some challenge. But I was thinking something more along the lines of "Get 40 wins in row in survival using Jax." Of course, the MK team could make things harder or easier, but I wouldn't like the idea of having to go through a ton of hoops just to get one chance at doing something that's entirely too difficult. That's not fun to me. Are we on the same page here?

Don´t you think it should be great?? Oh, and I´ll like it more if Konquest Mode return, or a similar kind of game mode. Greetings.

	All i ment was i remember Soul Calibur 2... and how you had to battle in story mode over and over again so you could get enuff money to buy all the weapons I just dont want another game to become that junk thats what MMORPG's are for

	I really like your "reprisal" idea. That would be something I would love to see in an MK game. Hopefully, Boon & co. will at least give us throw escapes and maybe even throw reversals for MK7. That by itself would triple the depth of gameplay. -----signature----- ~nKo~MKO Invasion~nKo~

	Fujin, welcome to the board man! I'm not a big fan of Motaro, but I would definitely welcome Rain back. So I agree and disagree with you Either way, don't worry about your English, just post your opinions. Mi no habla Espanol muy bein, pero voy a MK websites de Espanol. Granted, most people on the sites reply to me that my spanish is about as good as the smell of a dead body, but that's neither here nor there. Secondgen, thanks for the feedback on my reprisal system. I thought that it would be a good idea to make the matches faster and flow better, rather than how alot of other fighting games flow (they basically do kata moves that would never hit anyone in a real fight). I thought it would add a touch of realism to an otherwise fantasy based fighting engine. I really dig your idea on throw reversals though. I just wish that there were more throws to reverse! I think that some characters should only have two, maybe three throws max if their style is based more on kicking and punching. But if the style is judo, for example, there has to be joint locks, take downs, etc. Judo is somewhat of a grappling style in that regard. So lets say Jax uses judo (for example), maybe he doesn't have flip throws (R+X) but he has a variety of joint locks and takedowns that are executed using d-pad motions. Back Toward R+A, Toward Back R+A, Down Toward R+A etc. It would make the styles more realistic. Along with the throw system would be your idea of throw escapes. Perhaps using an escape (the A button) under my system, escaping throws could be initiated by pressing A if its a standard throw (R+A, R+X, R+Y) or by pressing the A and the first D-pad press of the the thrower. Let's say Johnny Cage does a flip throw that uses the D-pad like Back Toward R+X. Since back was the first direction pressed, if the guy being thrown presses back and A at the right time, he will escape out of the throw. How does that sound? I agree with you though, escaping throws would add a solid layer of depth to MK's fighting system. Good idea!

	Hey, I am a new user, but, I just wanted to say that The entire MK franchise is the best fighting game franchise ever. And, by the way, MKSM looks hella sweet (hey, I'm from norcal). But, I also really think that there should be a create-a-warrior type thing in MK 7. But that would be kind of stupid if you had to unlock all of the extra stuff. I mean, I see where that could be a good incentive to keep playing and unlocking things, bu personally, I would rather have a lot of options to start out with when I create a character. Oh, and another thing, face mapping. I think that we should be able to map our faces onto the characters we create. That would be sweet. These are the things I hope will be brought back. But, I also think that noob and smoke should be separate fighters, and kitana should come back. That would be pretty cool if Frost came back for some reason too. Definitely need "Test your Might" back as well

	I would like to apologize now for any spelling and/or grammatical errors and for the length of this post. Please bear with me. ^_^ Cheers to mk4lyfe. I agree with the bring all characters back idea. I don't agree with changing the controls. The current controls are simple and effective. Why change something that doesn't need to be changed. If you change them, then everyone has to adjust and that could repel some MK newcomers. Also, I like the idea odf the counters, just as long as they don't become the main focus of the game. Maybe a limited number of counters, like 5 or 10 for example. I think that the character strengths should change, as well as character speed. Mileena shouldn't be moving at the same speed as Jax, nor should her punch take out the same amount of damage. Jax should be stronger at the loss of speed, but Mileena should be able to jump higher and move faster at the loss of some strength. Weapon damage should also change. The Sai is an unbladed weapon, for those who don't know. It has no sharp points whatsoever. The three spikes on it are dulled. Therefore, it shouldn't be able to take out the same damage as a sword or knife. I agree that fighting styles should be limited to one fighting style and one weapon. I have noticed that some characters have had to change their weapons (Li Mei for example) because other characters had it first or would be better suited with it. Another example is that Johnny Cage and Liu Kang both have Nunchaku. You can't have them both in the same game with the same weapon or else it will get boring, but you also can't place them with the same weapon as another character. Scorpion and Sub-Zero need some updating. They are starting to be the same exact thing every game with little or no change in their moves. Their kinda beginning to be boring, with the exception of their roles in the story. I really like the idea of two characters in one (Noob-Smoke is the only one so far). There should be a mode in which you pick two characters and they move like Noob-Smoke. Each character would get one of his/her fighting styles, but no weapon. Each character would have his/her own special moves, and a couple everyone has that would be dual attacks, like Smoke and Noob punching the opponent at the same time. The Fatality performed would go to the winning character. Extra Fatalities would be added for certain combonations of characters; Team Fatalities I guess you could call them. For example: Liu Kang and Kitana, Kira and Kabal, Sonya and Jax, Noob and Smoke, would have a special Fatality that would incorporate the best of their abilities into one final attack. Fatalities should be kept at two per character and one Hara-Kiri (if they even decide to keep them. Personally, I enjoy them very much). Any more would be too much, but one would be too boring. //Most important paragraph next// Appearance will be key for the next game. This is because it will be a whole new set of consoles with higer power for graphics (terribe wording there). In particular, the title screen, the menu screen, the opening movie, and the character select screen should be in the highest priority. They are among the first things the player sees, and therefore should be flawless. This is where I think MK:DA went wrong (this may be a baised opinion though because I didn't like the game in the slightest). The opening sequence wasn't all that great, mostly a bunch of short scenes flashing from one to the other. The Title screen was pretty good. The MK:DA logo was a good one. The menu was boring. It was just a bunch of torches and hallways. At least the MKD one showed the characters and little previews of the mode you were about to select. The character select screen was terrible. It was way too small. It made it look like there were a lot less characters then there actually was. The icons were small and the whole thing was skinny, three across and seven down. I think having a wider character menu with larger icons really makes a difference. There's my two cents ( actually, its long ebough to be a whole dollar). 	You got some pretty good ideas. I agree with most everything you said. I also think that the controls should stay the same. The controls in MKD were much more improved than MKDA. The uppercuts were lacking in MKDA. I also like the idea of possible team modes. This would basically be a tag-team mode. But, I think that noob and smoke should be playable as separate characters. I also think that KOnquest should definitely come back. I think that you should be able to do more stuff though. Make it more like GTA a bit. Yes, I think that all the characters from the original trilogy should come back. I'm not particularly fond of Jarek, Reiko, Mavado, etc though. You know, I think it would just be awesome to create a fighter. But, you know what. It will most likely be good no matter what it includes or exludes. (But seriously, If I see Jarek, I'm gonna flip.)

	Wow, you've all got some really cool ideas. Definitely good stuff. I don't know if changing the controls would put off new MK fans. I mean, we've only had the 1,2,3,4 button scheme for the last two games. Before that it was HP,LP,HK,LK. I just think it's strange that with the system the way it is now, all four of the face buttons are pretty much interchangeable. In other words, pressing X could give you a punch, while pressing down and X could give you a low kick. It just seems odd. With the system I thought up, each button does the same thing, albeit in different ways, for all characters. You press X and any direction combination outside of a special move, and the character will do some sort of punching move. I think it's easier to have a system where you can tell someone who hasn't played it before "okay man, X is punch, Y is kick, this is how you throw, this is how you block etc etc." rather than saying "uh, 1...2...3...4. Just do stuff and see what happens." Get my drift? I agree with suggestions about create a character. I'm not saying that everything should have to be unlocked. No way. I think that players should be able to start off with enough cool stuff to make their characters from top to bottom, story and everything as soon as they unwrap the game and pop it in. But I also think that it would add to the longevity if there were alot more items to get by earning things in various modes. I'm not all about the minigames, as I don't think they have much of a place in fighting games, but I'd be cool with an MK version of Mario Party. I just think that a create mode, along with tournament modes, online, tag etc would make for a game that could be played for a long time, as none of these modes give you a "bought it, beat it, what's next?" feeling. Keep going with the ideas though guys, I like what I'm hearing!

I kinda liked Jarek, better than Kano anyways ^_^. I think it would be great if they returned Khameleon and Chameleon. Ya know, if you think about it, the controlls in MK:DA are almost exact to MKD, but for some reason, MKD felt way better. I find that very odd.
